Also, I think it would encourage manipulation of race finishes by teams, just not as blatantly as MWR did last year.

This is NASCAR's attempt to mimic the play-off format of stick-and-ball sports.
I like the greater emphasis on winning races, but I don't think I care for the elimination of drivers during the Chase.
