My intial thought was, Karlovic must have failed several times here in Miami , considering his weak records in masters/grand slams as well as those very heavy slow conditions that you should definetely not suit him.
And I was right.
In 2009 he lost in straight sets against GIL in 1st round, a Portuguese baseliner that prefers clay.
In 2008 he lost against Benneteau in first round, another baseliner.
in 2007 he lost in first round against Garcia-Lopez, another baseliner.
In 2006 he lost in the first round against Santoro.
In 2005 he lost in the first round against Rochus, another baseliner
So in conclusion his record in MIAMI is for the last 5 years..0-5! Also he went out against Almagro last week in similar slow conditions in first round.
So who is Gimeno-Traver? A top 100 player, normally produces his results in clay. But he did beat Golubev in first round, a similar player to Karlovic. Huge serve, but better return. That is an indication that the big servers advantage here is not as big as on a fast court. Gimeno has not played here before, but the conditions suit him and the win in the first round has made him warm on the surface. He only faced two breakpoints against Golubev that was a qualifier, which is extremely strong.
The price on Gimeno looks huge. Get on.
