French Open contests 2013 - sponsored by bet 365

As always there will be a separate contest for the men's and women's singles. For those of you who may not have entered one of my contests before, here are the rules:

    1. This is a bracket contest - think NCAA Basketball - which starts at the First Round of the FRENCH OPEN. The draw will be released FRIDAY MAY 24th. As the times of the first Round 1 matches are released I'll update this thread as well as the 2 individual ones once the draws are available. This is not a quick contest to enter - although if you use the bracket software I suggest in the contest threads it'll help a lot - so allow yourself some time to figure out your picks.

    2. Each person is to PM ME the winners of each match all the way through from the First Round until the
Final BEFORE the first match commences. Just to be clear: You have to figure out the winner of each 1st round match, carry them over to the 2nd round and decide who'll win, and so on. All of this before the first
match is played. I'll post everyone's picks at some point in the day so all of us can follow along.

Sponsored by bet365. Players without an account there must create one.

    So...

How exactly does 365 sponsor this? With pixel-points?

They pay for the prizes. Instead of the exact same contests I used to run where it was solely our entry fees divided so people were getting much smaller winnings, we're now lucky enough to have sponsors willing to foot the bill.

The same prizes which consist of pixel-points with a monetary value of 0?

    What am I missing here?

You're not missing anything as you're not a Pro. However I've got 2 Ipads and many donations to worthwhile charities to testify to what points are worth. I'll also soon have about $1000 in sportsbook cash to exchange. Pixel-points for sure!

Hysterical since you spent 8,533 points on 11 SBR Store purchases as an SBR Pro. Take your hypocrisy somewhere else. This is a tennis contest thread.

So you mean to tell me points are actually useful IRL?

    Thanks for the intel...

I never intended to ridicule you or the contest by the way. I just didn't get the 365 sponsorship actually costing 365 anything.

What does that have to do with this thread?

    You just contradicted yourself.

Exactly. What does it have to do with this thread? I was being polite and responding to you. Someone who ceased to become a Pro less than 2 months ago mocking the value of points after making 11 purchases as a Pro with them. If you have something to contribute re the contest, then go for it. If not, go elsewhere. Not hard to comprehend.

Points are useful if you're a Pro. If you're a non Pro not so much unless you have a love for a baseball cap or a tshirt. I've given a crazy amount of points away and still managed to buy 2 ipads and donate a shit tonne to charity. spankie's pissing me off because he's an intelligent guy who's just choosing to be a douche. However I understand why you'd be confused as you're newer here. Yes it does cost a book to sponsor these contests because we as posters can take these points and then use them to purchase things which is in turn a cost to SBR. Hope that makes sense!

Shari I wasn't mocking the value of points.

But why would Bet365 sponsor a contest that awards SBR Point freeplays and at the same time SBR is charging an entry fee?

What's the entry fee for then if Bet365 is sponsoring it and the only prizes are SBR Point freeplays? If I am paying points to enter a contest I expect to be able to win points from the contest. It just doesn't make sense. What happened to all of the contests where you could actually win something? Paying points for a chance at a freeplay that is supposely sponsored by Bet365 seems a bit strange.

    Sincerely,
    The douche

Because the # of people I used to get for these contests before I had say WillHill or bet365 sponsor was maybe 15 for women and 20 for men. Now it's almost double if not more. However the entry fees charged over both contests has dropped from the 15-20 I used to charge and it doesn't even cover one first prize. I'm more than happy to go back to how it used to be... no sponsor and just divvy up the entry fees of 10pts for straight points prizes. Way less work for me. But I know the people who play these contests - especially the ones who have done so for 2+ years back when it was just me - much prefer the shot at a 1500FP and 9 people paid decent prizes than a 300 first prize of pure points and a top 3. I know it because I've asked the question many times. This isn't a contest for everyone and I understand why you might laugh at it. But for those of us in the Tennis Forum it's become a contest of value so it's a bit insulting and saddens me personally when you mock what I'm trying to do for these guys because it's not like I win anything most of the time.
