SEOUL TRAIN - Next stop - ATP Tennis - St. Petersburg Open - 9/17

Evgeny Donskoy vs Guillermo Garcia Lopez

Pretty straightforward match up of youth versus experience. Donskoy has only once in 9 career matches. Being home in Russia may be why he is favored but other than that, I don't see how he's not even money with Lopez.

Lopez has a 6 year career where he's pretty much been playing .500 tennis throughout. His current record for this year is 17-18 and has played well nearby his native home, Spain.

I think Garcia-Lopez at +112 is too good of a value not to play, so here goes:

    Wager Type : Straight Bet

Garcia-Lopez prevails showing that experience does out last youth. Good start to the day!

Now Blake gets his match and off to a good start for the week!

Yeah, I was a bit surprised to see that. But it wasn't a pretty match and fortunately my thoughts on experience versus youth played a huge part in the match ultimately.

There are some good matches tomorrow in the Open de Moselle. I will be back shortly with a play!

So started off the week well today and looking to continue doing so.

Benoit Paire vs Xavier Malisse at the Open De Moselle

I normally like Malisse as a not too heavy favorite. He typically plays hard, consistent and ultimately does well overall in the first few rounds of most tournaments he plays in. As a matter of fact, he's won the first two rounds of matches eight times in the last ten tournaments he's participated in. The Open de Moselle is an indoor hardcourt venue so I looked a little deeper and found that Xavier Malisse has a 26-29 record on indoor hard courts. Benoit Paire has a 7-4 record. Malisse is 110-92 overall on hard courts while Paire is 15-19. I watched Malisse's last outing against John Isner and it was a long, well fought match but Isner took a lot out of him - both mentally and physically. Paire is young, upcoming and certainly plays better on his side of the pond! And being at home to play in front of his countrymen, I think the value is clearly on the youngster.

    Wager Type : Straight Bet

    Sport : ATP Tennis
    Selection : B. PAIRE 9/18/2012 9:00 AM - (EST)
    Money Line +122 for Match
Amount : Risking 100 To Win 122 USD

Wish everyone the BOL and see you all in the morning!

Just checked the lines for Malisse vs Paire and s I expected, the line moved in favor of Paire who is now +110 dog, which is still a good value!

I have my second play for Tuesday 9/18:

    ATP Open De Moselle
    Gael Monfils vs Olivier Rochus

These two have faced each other five times starting way back in 2005 at the Australian Open, where Rochus defeated Monfils. Then the next two encounters, both in 2006, were also won by Rochus. In 2007, at the French Open, Monfils was able to finally beat Rochus. In their most recent meeting in 2010, Monfils again was victorious.

The Open de Moselle is an indoor hard court tournament. The only time these two played on an indoor hard court was the last meeting where Monfils won.

Currently Rochus is ranked #97 in the world and in his past twelve tournaments, he was only able to advance twice to the second round where he was then proceeded to be knocked out both times. In his most recent first round exit, at the US Open, he was knocked out by Julienn Benneteau, another Frenchman, in straight sets. Rochus is 10-21 this year and although he can turn up his game and put together a few good wins, like he did at the Heineken Open earlier this year, he's starting to show a little slow down in his game possibly due to being 31 years old.

Currently Monfils is #69 in the world and has successfully advanced six times out the seven events he's played this year. He holds a 14-7 record this year and is playing at home in France which always spurns on more of an effort.

In the last two meetings between these two, Monfils has won by 6 games and 7 games respectively. Monfils is 2-3 versus Rochus but the tides have clearly turned. I expect Monfils to not only win but cover the spread -3.5 (-103) which is a great value in relation to the money line of -252. But I will still put something on both, so here goes:

    Wager Type : Straight Bet

    Sport : ATP Tennis
    Selection : G. MONFILS 9/18/2012 11:10 AM - (EST)
    Money Line -252 for Match
Amount : Risking 252 To Win 100 USD

And to cover the spread, a little extra $ :

    Wager Type : Straight Bet

    Sport : ATP Tennis
    Selection : G. MONFILS 9/18/2012 11:10 AM - (EST)
    Spread -3½ -103 for Match
Amount : Risking 150 To Win 145 USD

Finished yesterday 2-0, and like my chances of doing that again today between this play and the Benoit Paire play!
    BOL everyone!

    Up a set!

Dude's serve is wicked when it's on...it was off a bit his first service game but he got that break back pretty quick and it's looking great now.

Yeah! Rochus is having a lot of problems with Monfils second serve too!!

Nice work. I didn't have the guts to go clownin' today with Monfils. Figured he'd probably try hard here early, but he's difficult enough to read when he has some form to go on ... having months off was tough to gauge.

Thanks! I understand your reservation which is why I looked at this one extra closely. And I thought Monfils would be rested but he's starting to huff and puff in the middle of the second set. Luckily enough, he's serving well and he's able to capitalize on most of Rochus' mistakes.

And that's the match! Monfils beats Rochus in straight sets 6-3 and 6-2.

    WEDNESDAY 9/19/12

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga versus Clement Reix. Not much of a write up here since Tsonga is #8 in the world, 41-17 this year, and 42-12 on indoor hard courts! Clement Reix is not ranked, is 12-19 this year and has played on an indoor hard court once, his last match which he won Roger-Vasselin. I don't see how this match makes it into the 3rd set. I considered Tsonga -4.5 (-157) but that is a hefty price to pay for what really should be Tsonga -5 for a more reasonable price. This also tells me that the score should be something like 6-3, 6-4 Tsonga. The Over/Under is 19.5 with the Under at +102. I think that is a tremendous value considering that Tsonga should win by 5 or more games.

    Snatch it up!

    THURSDAY 9/20/12

    Nikolay Davydenko vs Gilles Muller

This is a great match up between two experienced and gritty professionals. They have faced each other three times prior to today's match. In 2006 and 2007, Davydenko beat Muller in straight sets but at the 2008 US Open, Muller was able to outlast Davydenko and beat him in four sets. Both are strong hard court players. Davydenko is 154-89 on hard courts and Muller is 98-72. Essentially this match is ultimately a coin flip but Muller looked sharper and played much better against Mathieu than Davydenko did against Zverev. I like Muller to pull the series even today and at +100, the play has good value.

    ADDED PLAY

    Mikhail Youznhy vs Rajeev Ram

This match has been catching my eye for the past 12 hours and I finally am going to act on my intuition. Youznhy is definitely the superior player in this match but Ram always finds a way to hang around and stay in the match till the end. Which is why the spread of +5.5 -127 looked so tempting!

I can imagine it now, Youzhny muttering to himself, just like KGB did in Rounders, "Hanging around, hanging around. Kid's got alligator blood. Can't get rid of him."
