Default CRAZYLou picks Roger Federer....The Monfils Play Looks Even Stronger Now

I dnt even have to go into the crazy picks over the French Open By Lou, i i gota say oyur crazy sayin Monfils wont have Home Cort Advantage, if you have watched a Mondils game you would of realised its a Soccer Style Atmosphear in the Stadium.

At +300 ML There is fantastic value on monfils, In my Oppinion Roger has been struggling for form and hes not anywhere the level of past years. Strugling agast Haas is unberlivable, and with Monfils high on confidence and form we could be due for another upset in this crazy French Open

I agree, however Fed needs this one to be the best ever. I don't see him losing to Monfils. He has a week serve and Fed can tear him up on the returns.

I'm pulling for Federer. He has struggled slightly, but found ways to win. If not for his prestige already he would be a no brainer getting this far and beating Nadal already in the last tourney.

Iv been following Monfils for quite some time now, i dont agree with the week serve, and he comes out with Aces at the right times. According to Sue Barker (bbc) Monfils uses a Roddik style of serve. Alot depends on the Fed forehand, if he plays anywhere close to his last 2/3 games, i dont see him beating a highly skilled Monfils with home advantage and confidence

He has lost against the top 5 almost everytime, and it was because of his serve. He has not played anyone in this tourney like a fed.

Get 70% of first serve over doesn't mean he has a good serve.

Hes a much improved player from even last year while Fed is on a decline, its clear he isnt the distructive force he once was. I still dont agree with your 1st serve comment however his record vs the big players is a valid point.

I Just cant see the value in fed.

crazylou's pick of fed seriously makes me want to unload irresponsibly on Monfils. I am talking entire bankroll + freeplays + loyalty pts

As stated before good Luck on your play. I just don't see it. Fed has been playing great before his last match. He seems to be back in form.

Decline, not sure what you mean about that. The top players like raffy beats him so he is on a decline?

Federer beat Nadal recently. Decline? I guess there is an argument for that, but he's still a force.

Monf's serve has been terrific this year. He's 6th on the 2009 service games won % table - top are roddick/karlovic as always, then tsonga/federer (best servers of the top 10), then Nadal, then Monf. Pretty good going considering he's been injured a whole lot recently.

Here's the problem with that stat.

Federer gets to serve too, and he is winning 80% of his first serves.

Also, Federer has won 115 points off of an opps first serve which was tops in the tourney until Soderling played today---Soderling has an additional match now under his belt than Fed.

Of all the players who made the quarters----Monfils won the fewest number of points against an Opps first serve.

Fed also has 51 aces compared to Monfils 38.

Fed also had the most points won on an opps second serve until the other two quarterfinal matches were played today. He is now 5th. Monfils is not among the top 20 in this category.

Good luck on your Monfils play though.

That one has a huge asterisk next to it. Nadal was playing a day after a three set, four and a half hour match against Djokovic. Fatigue played a large role.

I'll look at the game again later, but I don't think you can auto-fade Lou on this one.

Looks like a no play to me.

Monfils is capable of the upset, but I'd want the line to move before I bet it.

He's 22 years old, and been playing pro circuit since 18. Of course he's lost nearly every match against a top 5.

Federer didn't win a Slam until his 5th year as pro (beating unseeded Phillipousis in the finals), and had only made 2 Grand Slam quarterfinals in those 5 years!!!

Stats can be looked at in many ways so please don't say well he hasn't beaten many top 5's so he possibly can't win.... shit happens, monfils has the energy, motivation and crowd. Roger has hardly any of these.

I'm with Yisman on this one. I liked other options better than putting money on Monfils which I still believe is the only straight up play to make in this one at the price. I can't see taking a shaky Federer at wherever the line is now, but I do believe his pedigree and desire to get a French Open title may carry him through. It'll be interested to see if Monfils defines the moment so to speak or lets the moment define him. If he comes with intensity and doesn't resort to his old ways of trying to hit big winners and making fantastic points all the time, he has a legit shot here. I'll enjoy watching and see how it unfolds. GL to everyone in this one as this is probably going to be the biggest bet match left in the French .. I really believe that.

I think a case could be made that Federer has the best clay court serve in tennis.
