When the book says there's a max limit on your bet, what's stopping me from just making another one for the same max amount? Is that frowned upon?

Nothing do it.
Normally 5Dimes would not let me make a 2nd wager if it's at the same price...But sometimes they do, which I find weird. Then always think "these motherfukkers are accepting this bet, because they know it's gonna lose"
