Donald Young has a terrible attitude. He is talented for sure, but he just doesn't have that next gear that most players can get into. I have seen him play live three times & all three times, he is kicking the ground, shaking his hands in the air, looking at his box like he is confused........ The MAIN reason he is not progressing in MY opinion, is his coaching is terrible. He will NOT leave his mother and his brother, which has hurt him SO bad. Not just the training aspect, but the overall organization of his career. The decision made have been suspect........getting dropped off in a limo for a Challanger event???? REALLY??? If he got rid of his mother as his coach and his brother as his hitting partner and coach, he would of gone in a diff direction. Again, that is just what I think, but alot of people would agree with me. I also think his motivation has been VERY suspect over his career & at a level like the ATP, that just isn't gonna cut it. It's been a perfect storm for D Young & we are witnessing the colliding of all these factors this year I think. And I don't think it is going to get any better anytime soon. He has to makes some HUGE choices and he NEEDS a big change. IF he does all of that, he might still have a shot to not be horrible!! Like I said, he has the game, but I honestly think the mental game will always hold him back. He should of went back to Challangers and picked up alot of wins & alot of confidence. Querrey did it the right way!!! He went back to Challangers, got his game together and his training and THEN came back to the ATP. It was a great decision & it is paying off huge. Back in the top 25??? And climbing. D Young will keep dropping. Kind of feel bad for him, but he is laying in the bed he made.
