    LA Story for Thursday

    Parlay: Matosevic + Mahut
    Kamke was terrible in his opener, but James Blake was worse and couldn't finish him off multiple times. Aussie Matosevic is a handy little player who can be tough when he serves well. The surface suits him fairly well. If Mahut brings his A or even B+ serve, he should put a ton of pressure on Lorenzi whose own serve is poor. He didn't play a particularly flashy or great 1st rounder, but he beat a less experienced guy who played horribly.

    I keep waiting for my boy Berankis to get one of those breakthrough type tournaments where maybe he finally puts it all together. Maybe this is it. Maybe I'm trying a reverse jinx to help propel him, but he always seems to find a way to blow it when he starts playing experienced players. Andreev is nothing fancy on hard courts, but he has his moments when he maintains serve easily. He did that against Sela and with the slightly slower conditions in LA, that should play a little bit his way too. Dunno, just a gut check.

    Lorenzi should not be able to hang with Mahut. Bradley Klahn didn't even
    have a good match and still took a Set from Lorenzi. And Mato has a 96-62
    record on Hard since 2008, playing 70% of his matches on the surface, while
    Kamke has a losing 40-43 only playing 28% on Hard.

    I wish the price on Russell was better, but it indicates how well he has played and the unknown with Paire hitting the hard courts for the first time in a long time and he is still inexperienced on the surface. I don't know about Malisse-Ebden. I still have a gut feeling Malisse flops, but it may not be for another round.

    I like the pick on Andreev. I took your boy Berankis against Phau and even though he won in straights, the match was much closer than the score indicated. He was struggling to hold serve and Phau had him to deuce everytime Berankis was serving. If he cant score easy serve points on a hardcourt, it'll be a long day for Berankis.

    Malisse is overvalued. I think Ebden at +150 is where the "value" is.


    I perceive a huge gap in motivation here. May be a lot of unforced errors, and if Ebden is getting his first serves, a quick match in his favor.

    That magic +160 too...

    Not me. Paire hasn't been tha good lately and it's not a surface he has played a lot of matches on. Think the price is about right as Paire has more natural talent, but Russell is a fudgin' bulldog and he has some good form.

    It's becoming a break festival in the Mato/Kamke match. Mato needs to pull out his tampon and man up this 3rd set. Looks like the second set is going to Kamke.
