Default Why is thegreek praised so much here?

Every player swears by the greek. Even Fishheadwagering! I know their motto is sweat the game and not the payout and i have never ever heard any complaints about this book. I could say similar for betjamaica. I have thegreek account from many years ago but haven't played there ever since.

What is so special about the greek? Most of their lines are industry average aren't they? All lines are -110 whereas some recreational books like 5dimes and betphoenix have reduced juice. Yes i know if you win a lot they cut off your reduced juice. But if you are a USA player, isn't matchbook and 5dimes all you really need? I have reduced juice on 5dimes but only $50 max because i was an idiot many years ago and chose the bonus option as oppose to the reduced juice. But still you can bet $50 every 4 minutes or so or if the line changes though that amount is very small to people.

But thegreek doesn't even offer a free payout once a month. 5dimes does but only up to $1500 i heard by ***************. Even betjamaica offers a free payout once per month by wire or check and i heard check max is $3000 which is not bad at all. I know bodog offers a free check once per month like betjamaica as well and its fedex which comes in a few days and max is $3000.

Are thegreek limits that much higher than the other recreational books like 5dimes, bodog and betjamaica? How much can one wager on an NBA game? Because bodog takes up to 1000 on the spread and if you call in, its 2000 i read on the website. Does thegreek take even higher? I know people praise the greek because you would not get limited or booted out.

Also, what in the world are most people betting on at the greek? Are they props? 5dimes have the most props but i'm assuming you can bet higher at thegreek on the props? Because if you bet things like basketball or nfl, you would get the best prices on matchbook. Laying -103 is much better than -110. And when baseball season comes, their lines are horrible 20 cent lines. I heard 20 cent lines are when you have lines like -120/+100 and its hard to win.

I spoke to someone at 5dimes and asked what was the maximum i could wager on an nfl game and they said i could bet $5000. I was shocked i could bet this much but i'm a loser overall in my sports betting accounts the last few years but i was surprised i even had the option to bet this much. I mean what if i got really lucky and won a $5000 wager and then keep betting that high and win 4-5 bets in a row. Of course i only bet on the american sports and nba/nfl because i know nothing about any other sport and i don't bet those steam plays.

Also, when i look at their lines compared to Bodog, it looks about the same for hockey, mlb and basketball. I know bodog post moneylines late in the day but besides that, their lines are pretty similar. And bodog has the free payout whereas the greek don't.

But if one was to bet big amounts like $1000/wager and up, i know that might be small for many of you, would you say its best to just abandon the recreational books like 5dimes and bodog and just stick with the professional books like thegreek and bookmaker and of course matchbook? Also, i heard bookmaker has fallen a lot the last 2 years or so and before that, they use to be the book most professionals play. Is this true? Do anyone who bet big amounts even bother have money in bodog/5dimes/betjamaica if they are betting big since those books are labeled as recreational?

Would i be correct to assume most professionals in the US bet with thegreek, bookmaker and matchbook ONLY and just not play at any recreational books because its pointless for them?

I maintain an account with Greek but it's certainly not one of my prime books. Just an "optional extra" after BetFair, Pinnacle, Matchbook, SBO and 188.

But I do find them useful probably on average 3 bets a week when they do have the best odds available.

And I do get a free Moneybookers payout if I've had action in each of the last 4 weeks.

well they are one of the most secure books on the planet, they always pay quick, and they have early lines for US sports. They take prof. action (but it has its limits, they don't want steam hunters), and they are one of the very very few books with early lines they came up with on their own. This results in them having the best line sometimes even with the -110 or higher, in other words they are no copy-cat and thus always a good book to have.

yes agree with that and you can get get one free payout per month if you're active

Is thegreek considered the gold standard? It seems they are always known as the number 1 book but lot of other people say they are tough to beat because of the -110 lines and betting at reduced books like 5dimes, matchbook would be easier.

Overnight lines and they pay, no runaround with payment is key.
I Don't use for baseball, 20 cent line. How many threads about no-pay, slow-pay, canceled wagers and all that are on this forum, never hear anything like that from them.

A big plus also is they have never called me.

u said that the max bet u are allowe at thegreek is 5k.. that isnt accurate.. on the superbowl they regularly accept 100K bets even online wagering.. and during playoffs I know one person personally who has called in 40K bets on sides. with management approval anything is possible there.

hey brianlaverty, i saw that thread you created on covers and know you know a lot about the sportsbooks and you had thegreek/betjamaica listed as the best book and matchbook right below it and considered these 3 books the top tier book.

I'm just saying for the people from the united states, wouldn't the greek be the gold standard since i never ever heard anyone say anything negative about them? I mean every book like 5dimes, matchbook, bodog has had some problems but i never heard a complaint about thegreek and even betjamaica.

Hareeba, what books you say are superior than thegreek in the united states? Are you from the united states? And when you say tons of books are superior than thegreek, i would assume you mean because of the reduced juice correct and thegreek is -110 lines? Thanks!

I'm not from the US so can bet with the best which are Betfair, Pinnacle, SBO, 188 and Matchbook. They are my prime books which all mostly offer superior odds and higher limits than Greek.

I do maintain an account with Greek where I can sometimes get best prices (but at relatively low limits) particularly for tennis sets and golf matchups but I regard them only as an "optional extra" book where I probably average only 2 to 3 bets per week.

But if I were in the US and still wanted to bet online (can't see that I would because I don't think it would be worth my while anymore) Greek would probably be my first choice after Matchbook. I'm limited too severely at 5D and Bodog to be bothered with them, as well as at a few others. Never received an invitation to Heritage and not seen enough to entice me to open accounts at some of the others which appear to be well patronised by posters on this forum.

    High limits.

Other than that, you'd be crazy to pay -110. The dinosaurs died. So will full juice books, eventually. Low juice competitors will win out. If books like the Greek would adept, they would be great.

so does the Bank of England .... and about as much chance of getting a decent wager on there ... but at least they pay some interest on your account deposit and don't charge for withdrawals

The site is simple and seldom down.

They have quite a few prop bets.

They have maintained a respected reputation for a long time (just checked their site: since 1996).

That is 14 (almost 15) years.

This longevity of reputation counts for a lot.

I didn't start playing here until quite recently and really enjoy their reloads now. Their website look like it had been made by a 9 year old using one of those 10 minute website programs. Functional and quick, but looks god awful compared to most euro books. But then I'd rather have security and peace of mind than some fancy website. Perhaps they still think its 1996?

    A few reasons:

You can make wagers for many thousands of dollars.

They will pay you any amount in a day or two - no questions asked.

They are often first to put up lines and especially half time lines.

  28. #28

I found it hard to deposit there and not the best lines, but they do have a ton of wagering options and high limits. No live chat either, but your money's safe there.
