Default Portlandbet

Not answering phones or emails, all bet lines down, and they took their phone number off the website. I'm 90% of my way through a bonus requirement, so can't even withdraw manually.

Anyone heard anything concrete?

The last I read about Portlandbet was that they closed down back in February, 2008 and then reopened under new management sir. Let me see what I can find about them currently. Meanwhile, If you feel you ever need some assistance with your issues. You are always welcome to fill out a complaint form and one of us will try to inquire to them on your behalf.

If you are talking about Portlandbet in Oz, it is now owned by Terry Lillis from Centreracing. Stand-up guy.

Thanks guys.... yes, I called several times, within their office hours (9-5 aussie east coast time). Also tried a number I found in a Canberra phonebook, ends 3646. Both just ring endlessly.

Should mention I can still logon, and a bet was graded even after their lines went a few days back.

First off, Welcome to the SBR forum sir.

Considering they are an Australian bookmaker, I sure would think they would be. Because books over there are about as safe as safe can get in regards to security of funds.

I have a couple of £k's in here and am unable to do anything with it. When I go to withdraw it tells me max allowed is £0, for all withdrawal methods.

Starting to get worried now that they will not be paying out.

I just registered here - the main reason is Portlandbet. They are off already 3 days, my funds are stuck in there. Due to the withdrawal requirements I can not request a withdrawal. The do not answer e-mails, do not answer phone calls. I think a regulated bookmaker should inform its customers what is happening. If they go bankrupt they should refund our money as soon as possible. I intend to contact any authority who would be able to help me against such unprofessional behaviour.

Thanks in advance for your help.

"This was posted on another forum. "As of 1 July 2008, Portland bet is no longer trading. Their financial position is currently being assessed. The Commission is working with Portland Bet on obtaining a list of outstanding debts owed to punters. As required by all sports bookmakers when first licensed, a security guarantee has been lidged with the commission which is designed to cover unpaid punters funds up to the limit of the guarantee. Portland bet or the commission are currently not in a position to give any definitive advice on when any outstanding debts may be settled. When the Commission receives a full list of all account holders and any outstanding amounts these will be considered in due course in the context of the security guarantee and any other funds that may be available." Couldn't find any more info on the web. This was posted on Rpoints at 12 but its from another forum not sure where they got it from though ....."

Thanks angel.

I guess the question then is what exactly "no longer trading" means. Is it an organised windown because they realise they've got no longterm profitability, like Ascot? Or have they severely run out of funds. I'm hoping regulation would make the latter a lot less likely, but that might just be wishful thinking.

For the record, I have $3k in there. Not too terrible, but obviously wouldn't mind getting it back

Can someone please clarify what protection is offered to players' funds with Australian sportsbooks. Can we expect to get all of our funds back even if we haven't completed the WR?

I know some people who were paid in the order of a few thousand pounds just at the start of this week, so this might indicate that there is still some cash there. Hopefully anyway ...

They're almost certainly going to pay out, I know people who have been paid as recently as today.

The problem is for those of us (including myself) who've never had a withdrawal from them previously and need them to approve our ID and deal with outstanding bonus balances, when they're not answering emails.

Do you know if these withdrawals were asked for before Monday? That seems to have been the last date odds were available, and the day the phone number was removed from their site. It's probably not a coincidence that was the last day of June.

I suspect that 1 July would have been the date they'd have had to renew their ACT license, and they opted not to as the expense wouldn't justify their profits.

In at least one case the withdrawal was requested Tuesday (Australian time)

First off, Welcome to the SBR forum

Thanks for sharing this info with us all. I must admit that I did not know that on July 1st this was going to happen.

I also still have 150 Euro there and always get the message that I can withdraw '0 Euro' only if I try to withdraw using Moneybookers. These 0 Euro are probably because I have not yet done the roll over (but how could I without any bets on their site anymore...).

According to MSE forum, someone managed to withdraw via moneybookers on Tuesday, despite not having completed the bonus requirements. The suggestion was maybe the rest of us haven't mailed them the required ID documents beforehand - being an Aussie book, they're very strict about this (can't remember if I have or not).

Of course, whether there is anyone left to do verifying is anyone's guess, but at least it gives us hope if they're paying out.

I requested a withdrawal of my balance yesterday & received the payment in full to my bank account overnight. No problem.

Perhaps this should also go in the July payout report?

Can I ask if you had completed bonus requirements and had sent them ID?

Edit: tried this, and got.....
"The maximum you can withdraw using a Transaction by Bank to Bank is GBP0.00"

If I try to withdraw by bank wire I even don't see any limit: the page reloads but nothing happens at all. When I try Moneybookers the maximum withdrawal amount is 0 Euro too.
They also don't answer to any e-mail.

I had recently fulfilled all their ID requirements - I had had to do this before making a further credit card deposit. Last Saturday (after losing my balance again) I had deposited & received a bonus. I had not bet before they discontinued betting markets. I sent an email querying the absence of betting markets with no reply.

And then yesterday when I went to my account the bonus had been adjusted back out of the account. I then preceded to request the withdrawal of my deposit which went through as I said overnight last night.

Happy Days!

You all who got paid, have previously sent IDs. These of us who haven't, can not withdraw anything from there. That is why we receive the error message. I do not know what to expect from them, the say they will pay but when? Are they going to pay me interest on the money they are holding?

Now they have a new message on their site:

"PortlandBet has ceased trading as of 1st July 2008.

We would like to thank our valued customers and assure everyone with account balances that they will be paid out and all outstanding bets honoured.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused and ask for your patience in processing payouts.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us."

Problems appearing with withdrawals and bonuses. According to a few on other forums, they're subtracting all of your remaining bonus wagering requirements from withdrawals. For example, if you have 4000 pounds bonus wager requirements and are 75% done, with 2000 pounds in the account, they'll subtract 1000 (25%*4000) from the withdrawal. In other words, they're assuming you'd lose literally all your remaining wagers, rather than return 90-95% on your bets.

They appear to be doing this on the basis of existing bonus conditions that this is an "early withdrawal", but of course it's been impossible to wager since 1st/july so everybody is forced into this.

That's just for those who submitted ID before though. No response to email otherwise, so those of us who haven't are stuck.

SBR has gotten a number of complaints on this book. I have an email in to them trying to figure out how players can best collect funds. I will be updating everyone with any details we can get from Portlandbet.

HeeeHaw,

Are you sure they are debiting a percentage from the balance and not the bonus amount? I wouldn't be surprised to see guys lose their bonuses since I don't believe they are obligated by Australia to honor it but this way would mean players may be punished for accepting it.

it would be fair to prorate the bonus but to take take the missing rollover amount of the balance would be plain theft.
what if somebody deposited few days ago and took the bonus? they just take all of his money?

anyway, it is just a rumor and it will stay a rumor...
