BetGuardian is a real solid book. They are one of the oldest sportsbooks and have an great bonus IMO. I know guys that have been playing there for over 10 years and someone of my biggest clients play there.

What attracted you to those two books?

I know nothing about BetGuardian but plenty about IAS as I've been playing there almost since they opened their doors.

First thing to understand is that they are an Australian book and thus subject to strict regulation. Australian books are amongst the safest in the world. They will not get away with scamming and you won't lose your money. The price of that security is having to abide with the laws under which these books operate which includes strict ID requirements. IAS don't ask for that just for their own benefit. It is a greater inconvenience and cost to them than to you. What's the big deal about getting someone on the long list of acceptable professions to certify your document? Surely everyone has a compliant friend or relative who would do it for them.

IAS was started by entrepreneurial bookmaker, Mark Read and has been Australia's leading online race bookmaker for a long time. Their sportsbook was also very useful too until Paddy Power took over about a year ago. Since then they have adopted the horrendous European severe limiting policy and are now no longer worthwhile me maintaining an account with. I do however keep the account for racing where they are still well worthwhile. So if you joined for racing okay, but if for sports, you may as well have gone with Paddy Power or any of the other gutless Euro books.

It seems as though Mark Read has resurfaced as Readbet.com.under his niece, Katheryn's licence. Currently only operating on racing but the sportsbook is soon to be launched and claims that it will be offering 'some of the highest limits on the internet'.

If that proves to be true it should be an excellent book to have an account with.

No. It wouldn't be random. The LAW says that it must be done within a certain time period, I think 3 months and prior to a withdrawal. Your friend may have just slipped through a crack but most probably that will be only temporary.

Trust me. It seems quite random and it is certainly no temporary thing. Some aussie books are nice about it like IAS, sportsbet, sportsalive, sportingbet au, sportsbetting au, whereas luxbet and betfair aussie wallet would always want certified id. IASbet has been a bit in between and not everyone needs to provide the certified stuff.

I dont know if maybe aussies always have to provide certified id... that may very well be... but there is a distinction - hence why when I have received ID requests they have been titled like "INTERNATIONAL SPORTINGBET ID REQUIRED" and similarly from the request from sportsbet.com.au the e-mail was headed "International Customers". I don't think I have the iasbet e-mail as it was from 2008, but I never provided certified id to them. 100 points of ID was enough. Things may have changed since though... but not according to my friend's experience.

Maybe ias requests certified id from people who they believe are whores so to make it harder for them. Typically eastern european countries as well as UK people.

I never had to provide a certified document to IAS because I opened my account with them many years ago when 100 points of ID was the rule
but I think it was about 12mths ago that that was thrown out and a certified document has been required for all new accounts since then

you don't need to have your certification done by the police
there is a very long list of acceptable certifiers other than police officers
almost everybody would have a friend or relative who could certify a document for them and they don't even need to know what it's for

anyone with a genuine grievance against IAS should be referring it to the NT regulators who I'm confident will give them a fair hearing including an explanation

I have every confidence in playing with IAS although it is true they have gone downhill badly as a sportsbook thanks to that miserable Irish crowd, Paddy Power who have slashed limits to absurd levels, but their racing product is excellent and they remain a very safe and sound government regulated bookie. You will not be cheated there, but you do need to pay attention to their rules and ID requirements.

The simple question I have is, whats the problem with providing ID unless you have something to hide maybe? The Corporates in Australia are bound by federal law as a condition of licence to ask for it as pert of the Anti Money Laudering legislation. This requirement also protects you from someone else getting a withdrawal from your account if you choose to leave it unidentified. Its happened!!
