Default Interwetten closes sportsbook to UK users

Interwetten has decided, with immediate effect, to permanently block sportsbook use for all UK accounts with only allow Casino/Gaming use permitted going forward.

Have some friends there with low 4 figure balances who are less than amused at this moment ...

I think money is safe, but they won't take any more sports bets.

Intrwetten is the same as Intertops right?

Very odd considering it is perfectly legal in the UK and Intertops allows US customers as far as I know.

    Norway as well yes.

An interesting discussion point was raised on another forum I am on ... basically seems they are dropping European customers who reside in a country which is not in the Euro.

Perhaps the move from 0.82 to 0.88 on Euro/Sterling the past two months killed them and they've decided to no longer have an FX risk component in their business model (?)

Leaving casino & games wouldn't really reduce their FX liability, probably just a case of selecting target markets where they have a long term history of profit.

Well, am guessing most affected users 'being shown the door' were sportsbook only so it may well do so ...

Yes most of the world is probably blocked out of the sportsbook now. Makes sense kind of. Maybe it was hard for them to generate profits when their limits were so low. Now maybe they just treat it as a niche product for their best customers.

Well, their quickly imposed limits needed to be there as they had stupidly crazy prices on euro football so often ...

I think the most of the blocked users are better than the average customer. They are outside the area where Interwetten makes their marketing except internet marketing. These customers use Interwetten because they are offering interesting odds.

To be fair I believe almost everyone only used them for their goofball odds ... no one I know ever bet with them except on the handful of lines each day where they are 3+ % percent off-market.

They're either 10+ pts below everyone else or 5-10 points over the exchanges, no middle ground

Since I'm not intrested in Casino/Games, I've decided to withdraw all of my funds from my account... just to be on the safe side.

Interwetten is the worst type of (reputable) book.

Lines have a lot of juice but pretty much never move. Hit one or two which have been left hanging and they limit you to pennies.
No great loss for me but would be interested to learn why they are now focussing solely on Euro zone markets,

Who would play at Interwetten...seriously, i don't even have to look at the site to know this is another horrible euro book.

Well, my country is on interwetten's black list for a long time already, so I'm surprised that they're removing even more countries from their market.

Anyone get an email saying they are going to charge you if you don't use your account?
Hilarious given they actively stopped me using my account by banning me from their sportsbook.

The last email I received from them is a no-lose 10 EUR bet offer. Fortunately they allow me to place 10 EUR on any league

They DO have a B- rating here on SBR though ...

As for myself, I live in Spain, and have been (sports) betting a fair bit with Interwetten over the past weeks (their free cash offer is very generous!). Today though, it seems they've placed a 20€ stake limit on my account. Been trying to place over five bets today - and it wont let me stake more than 20€ on anything

Their withdrawal service also leaves a lot to be desired...
Earlier this week I tried to withdraw to my Moneybookers account (which I also made all my deposits from), and was told that since this is my first withdrawal, it has to be a wire transfer. That bit is now done, so yesterday I tried to withdraw to my Moneybookers account again, and was told that this would take 24 WORKING hours, so no dice until Monday.

I struggle to understand their rating on SBR...
