Default Bet Phoenix - display of incompetence

I don't think the damage can be corrected at this point but I need to vent.

    July 20th - I request a $4000 Moneybookers withdrawal

Aug. 9th - I receive a cheque for $3000. I am perturbed. I don't understand why they have changed the method and amount. No one contacted me. But the payment is already late and I talk to my account rep and say, screw it, I'll just process the cheque. He agrees and says sorry for the mix-up. I have the e-mails from this exchange but whatever. Life goes on.

Yesterday (Aug. 19th) - I am surprised to see $4000 suddenly hit my Moneybookers account from Phoenix. I check my Phoenix account balance and only $1000 has been deducted. Why? They have put a stop payment on the $3000 cheque (which I deposited and spent a week and a half ago as agreed between me and my rep).

What is wrong with these people? I don't know if the stop payment can actually work after this much time (the cheque is dated Aug. 4). Best case, the bank says NO - it's too late. But if it actually does work, I do not have enough money in my accounts to cover it so I have to start scrambling around and possibly incurring fees. I spoke to my Phoenix rep and he told me they would compensate me for any fees so that's good although it doesn't help me with whatever scrambling around I may have to do.

Here's what they won't be able to compensate me for: this could damage my relationship with the bank. They currently don't put my US cheques below 5K on hold. It is pretty standard for Canadian banks to have a 3 week hold on US cheques. But I worked out this special deal which is quite valuable to me. But I could see this Phoenix situation jeopardizing that. Thanks a lot!

Now if the stop payment doesn't work and the cheque is mine, then I am actually overdrawn on my Phoenix account because they will have given me more in payouts than I have in my balance. Tough shit for them I suppose - although I guess I will send them by Moneybookers whatever they have overpaid. I guess I should follow the Phoenix method and promise it in 8-10 business days but take a month. But no seriously, I would do it in 3 seconds. That's how long it should take to do a Moneybookers transfer!

And that's the thing. If we set aside the whole incompetent cheque situation and just look at it as a straight Moneybookers payout, it took a fukking month which is TOO FUKKING SLOW!!! Very poor job!

They have pissed me off from about 6 different angles.

Had the check cleared your bank yet? Not sure if 10 days would be enough time for the check to clear.

Jesus Christ, what a collosal F**k Up. I know these guys have done some questionable things, real or alleged, but when I see something like this coming from a guy with Mudcat's rep, I seriously doubt I'll ever play there again.....

I don't know. I don't understand the inner workings of these things. My bank gives me special treatment but it is pretty standard for Canadian banks to put a 3 week hold on US cheques so maybe that's how long it actually takes to clear.

When I spoke to the people at Phoenix, they sounded pretty confident that the stop-payment would work. I can only hope this is another thing where they don't know what they're doing.

Nothing is being reflected in my bank account yet.

What is the average time that checks by regular method(UPS) are taking these days..........I'm speaking of the one free per month that is allowed by Phoenix(2,000 max)????

Mud, if you're concerned about what the bank might think, just explain upfront that there was a mix-up, before any sh*t hits the fan.

I have done that DH and made it clear I will get the funds to cover the potential overdraft with all due haste. There was nothing but goodwill in both directions. I just hope some backroom pencil-pusher doesn't become aware of it and start questioning why my cheques aren't being held. That is a boat I don't want rocked.

The last I was supposed to get was 27 days old before they finally figured out it got lost in the mail.I was told so many fukkin bs stories during this time that I finally had to pry a USPS tracking # out of them and do my own legwork since they were to stupid to do it themselves.Only after I sent them an email from the USPS and had a forum owner bust their balls did I finally get paid.Sounds like the same stupid idiots are still running that dump.

Mud, now that you have that 4k extra. You can do a payout for them real cheap to someone else who needs a MB payout?! And, you deserve a little extra fp for helping out with processing issues.

I have been successful with wire withdraws. Inexplicable what goes on with payouts there AND I like these guys!! lolol

Why would BetPhoenix put a stop payment on the check in the first place?

Phoenix completely f'd up my last wire, misspelling my name and not even including the account number! The bank rejected it. After many weeks, everything got corrected and the wire went through. However, my bank closed the account for suspicious activity. I have been very active on this account for years, successfully receiving wires many times for much larger amounts with no problems.

Oh well, you can't have everything. Incompetent bookmaking generally comes with incompetent everything else.

bet phoenix is unique as far as heavier books go b/c they seem to like to blame all their fckups on customers

other big books like the greek/pinny/bkmkr/5 dimes etc typically swallow their mistakes (whether it's booking, linesmaking, payout) in favour of the customer b/c they undestand that's the way to retain business, phoenix seems to have lost their way in that regard.

on my previous dealings w/ phoenix, i never got the impression that they were genuinely shady, broke, or thieving, rather i got the feeling that they like to pass on their mistakes/incompetance to their customers instead of footing the blame. this will not work in their favour as they continue to isolate their player base..

If things go sour with the bank be sure to contact a manager because that reduced hold time is worth a lot. I've been on 3-4 week hold forever and despite my best efforts they wouldn't budge. All the banks I've dealt with are very conservative and worried about FINTRAC.

Do you have relations at a smaller branch or is it in a metropolitan area? I can see how being a big fish in a small pond may get you preferential treatment from the manager in a smaller place. Also, do you have a personal relationship with an employee that allowed for the reduced wait? Any info in this area I can use to plead the case would be appreciated.

    Fees:
    • 1 free check every 30 days up to 2000 USD
    • Every other check has a fee of 50 USD
    • Checks are sent in increments of 500 USD
    • Available only for US customers

    Is this true?

So if one requests 2,000, they recieve four 500 checks??

    Creative thinking. I like it.

I can only guess they thought they were correcting a mistake. Customer requested Moneybookers, Phoenix sent a cheque - so let's get it straightened out. There is a simple-minded, linear logic to it. What was lacking was common sense and communication.

I ain't no big fish. It's suburban branch of a major national bank. I have no personal relationship with someone on the inside. I can't really explain why I get preferential treatment. I mean, I'm a nice polite guy and I have never caused any trouble and they have certainly sucked a lot of interest and service charges out of me over the years. I guess that's enough.

But you're right, it is definitely worth a lot to me.

    If this is a B+ book I can't imagine what a D- book is.

Mudcat you're a fool if you ever repay Phoenix what you may end up owing them. I would repay a book that made an honest mistake, but after that shitshow they wouldn't get a penny back from me.

Why so much bad about BP when the SBR rates them a B+ ? It seems so many people say alot about this book and it is all bad, are they just out to get this book or is it all true ?

In business there are good things and bad things about a company if you dont like it then go somewhere else. Living here in costa rica now and getting settled in the life style here i have found a few books to play at but i was looking for another one but seeing all the bad wrap on BP i dont know if i should deposit there.

Can someone please tell me really what is going on with BP and if i should join ??? MB32

B+ my ass. The worst part is they are only a few more fat SBR affiliate checks away from being in the A group. Nothing but problems and like someone already mentioned it's never their fault! Definitely a black mark on the reputation of this forum.

My overall experience with Phoenix was pretty good. Nice bonuses. Workable lines on the bets I like to place. Software getting the job done. I won some cash in a free NBA bracket contest.

I wasn't trying to cash out completely; I just wanted to draw my balance down a bit. I intended to keep playing there.

I could have been a pretty big Phoenix supporter. But they screwed this one thing up in such a unique and maddening way, I had to vent.

More than a week later, this is still not being reflected in my bank account. If the stop-payment was denied, I have a few thousand dollars sitting in my Phoenix account which really isn't mine.

Don't know what's going on. I guess I could phone them. Unfortunately experience dictates that will be about as satisfying and productive as banging my head on my desk.
