Default Problem with FED-EX checks at The Greek

OK, so I requested a payout for 4,300 and I received the check in 2 or 3 days.

The problem is this, I go to my bank which is Wells Fargo and deposit it. They proceeded to place an 11 business day hold on it because they suspect fraud. Is there a better way to do this?

Wells Fargo attempted to verify the check and Wachovia would not confirm anything.

I attempted calling the company that issued the check and they are located in Jamaica. They were very hard to understand and I do not believe they really knew what was going on.

Has anyone else had troubles with verifying checks? Is there something that can be done to prove the validity of a check?
I think the lady at my bank was just an ugly old fat cunt and that is my problem. Any advice would be helpful.

PS I got one for 1700 about a month ago and it was available the next day.......

This is just an opinion but I agree with you.. The problem is your bank.. Since the new laws have taken effect I assume banks don't want to process it if they don't know what it is or assume it is from gamming...

Basically she is feeding you sh*t...

I assume we will see more of this in the near future...

They asked me what it was for and I said that I got a loan through lendingtree.com

I probabbly should have done a bank wire, but I was really happy with the quick turn around from the last time I deposited one of these checks.

You could also deposit through an ATM to avoid answering any questions.

I like the lendingtree comment! My Bank put a 11 day hold when I deposited a check from the greek, Pokerstars and carbon Poker all at the same time!!! I like the nice folder that came with the Greek check! Class act. MY funds were available a week later even before the hold!!!

It's probably just the "ugly old fat cunt" at your bank. I've cashed checks of 6k and 8k from thegreek no problem but I also have plenty of money in checking and savings to cover in case there was a problem so maybe thats why I had no troubles.

Thanks guys, glad to hear that the funds came through in five days.

Those black folders for the checks are awesome. I took a picture of that along with my check. I was impressed.

You need a new bank.

I prefer online banks. I don't have to talk to anyone to conduct my business.

I have never had problems cashing, maybe its because I have had enough money in my bank account! If they cash the check then I dont care if they put the funds in my bank acct on hold until the check clears

A few months ago it use to take only 1-2 days for my sportsbook checks deposit to clear up at my BOA. Now the hold on it is taking atleast 10 days or more. Well, bummer! I'll keep my checks usually around 2k, just to avoid suspicion.

Man, I have never been asked what a check is for. if this is the new law, then yea, deposit it in the ATM. As long as it has U.S. routing numbers on it, my bank has never put more than a 5 day hold on it. I would go to another branch, or even switch banks if they are going to be asking what checks are for. How large are these checks? A check below $10K its none of their business, imo. You don't want a suspisious transaction report, so it is better not to tell them that. I use 3 different checking accounts now. I'll move to 4, if depositing checks is going to start generating reports.

It's not all that unusual IMO for a bank to put a hold on a check... I have had it happen at least a few times and I didn't care too much... It usually won't happen again after the first time or two at the same bank so it may be worth you while to deal with a hold...

I agree completely.....In fact, it seems to change from teller to teller. For example, any time I cash a check from Greek, or ABC, wherever, I'm always informed it will have a 10 day or so hold put on it. That is, unless my favorite elderly clerk handles the deposit, in which case there is never a hold placed and I can access the funds immediately if I so choose...Anyway, not really a big deal either way as I always try to have a nice financial buffer zone, but something I've always found odd. Is the "Hold Policy" a set bank rule or teller's discretion.....

i always deposit at wellsfargo myself. While not for that amount I have deposited several in the $1900-2400 range. As for the questions I know tellers these days are supposed to strike up conversation with people making your banking experience more personal, I hate this practice and use ATM deposits at all costs. The "hold" disturbs me. Please keep us updated on this issue. When wellsfargo asked questions about the check you should tell them its none of their business that is what I have done.

Was the check drawn on a US bank? If so then I don't see why there was a hold. I cashed a check from Pinnacle once and it definitely was a non-standard check. They didn't ask too many questions and went ahead and cashed it because they knew me. One thing that was nice about Neteller checks was that they were drawn on a US Bank.

As much as I hate to say this, banks are not your friend for the most part. Watch what you say to the tellers to avoid suspicion. The tellers can file SAR's (suspicious activity report) on you for relatively low $ transactions and you'd never know about it.

One possibility, is they ask questions about the check in order to see how many days the hold should be. Checks from sources that are well known, such as paychecks from the largest employer in town, usually are not going to have any hold at all. Checks from Bet Jamaica, doesn't surprise me there is a longer hold, and the clerk may just be curious.

I don't think this has anything to do with gaming regulations; this is banks not wanting to get ripped off by bad checks.

What's up "stumpage".. Where ya' been dude..?

IMO it is the handler of the checks discretion be it the bank manager or the teller (whoever is depositing the check).. I think they are trained to allow checks with no problem unless they suspect it may be a "POSSIBLE" fraud.. Well with all the fear of terrorism and the bark of "be aware of suspicious activity" all around us from our lovely programmers (media) this should not surprise anyone... WOMEN buy into fear more then men and women working in banks ???

There is even fear amoung most of you posters as a result of the samething... It is what the fear was designed to do... Keep an eye on each other...

It's pretty much teller discretion. They can lose their job for cashing worthless checks without placing a hold on them.

cwsulzba, why would you take a picture of the Greeks check with the folder? Do you expect to never see one again? It's a piece of cardboard man.

It's the very least they can do for a $35 withdrawal fee and full juice 24/7.

Just busting your balls dude, congrats on the payout.

Do you think it's suspicious if you deposit fed ex checks regularly around once a week?

Spliff hit the nail right on the head. There's a lot of teller discretion involved. Some of the teller's at the bank know me and will run it through, but a new face or a drive through teller generally places a 5 to 10 day business hold on my checks from Pokerstars, FullTilt, Greek, Bookmaker, BetJM, etc.

No. As a matter of fact, I think regular timing and similar amounts being deposited is a tremendous plus (particularly if trying to avoid holds and questioning as such).
