Globet Sportsbook on the move: Address changed with UK government

With their website down since February 18 and no one answering the phone, SBR investigators discovered that Globet Sportsbook changed their office address on file with the UK Government which posted officially also on February 18. The timing could be a coincidence as we are unable to confirm as of yet their actual move date or the office address change could signal the company downsizing; Globet has been slow-paying customers for quite some time. Whatever the circumstances behind their move, SBR has downgraded Globet to D-, which officially places them on the sportsbook blacklist.

You can read SBR's official report here: http://www.sportsbookreview.com/sbr-...-uk-govt-6122/

If someone's close by there'd be no harm in paying them a visit. Don't be aggressive about it but just to see if you can manage to find someone to talk to in person. Often it's easier to understand someone and make yourself understood in person rather than over the phone when one of you doesn't speak English as their first language. I bought their company documents and there are two directors - one who lists his residence as Rome and the other Argentina - and then there are about 15 more Italians listed as shareholders so I'm not sure who you'll find there or if it's just an address they use to receive their mail. I'd also suggest contacting the UK Gambling Commission today. Even if this is all innocent, they might be able to get an answer from them. Unfortunately as we've learned with Canbet the GC is quite useless but they do at least seem to get a response from license holders.

Ideally Globet would've contacted it's clients to advise they're moving or having IT issues or even just contacted SBR so we could spread the word. But because they didn't and also have a history of slow-paying, it's understandable why all of us are suspicious and fearful after a few days of this now. Hopefully this is just a series of innocent mistakes but until all is well again with Globet (if ever) we'll keep looking for info for you guys and keep you updated. Please do the same if you find anything.

If it's simply a new address and if their license is always valid, the site should be again available quickly. No?

Not necessarily. The address was officially changed with the govt on the 18th but we have no idea if that's when they moved. It may have just been that's when the Registrar got a hold of them because we have evidence that they were trying to for awhile. Canbet's license is still valid, they stopped taking deposits and making withdrawals on Dec 31, they owe close to a million dollars just in the thread on SBR and they've acknowledged that's just a small bit of what they owe. Over the past little while I've sadly learned that having a valid UK license doesn't really mean jack.

Exactly. This was my point above when I said it might just be a mailing address and for Mexes not to rush there quick. But until we can get that verified, we can't say for sure yet. I always try to err on the side of caution so that when we do present damning proof of a book doing a dodgy it's not lost amongst false starts.

I also have 458 GBP marooned in Globet. Requested withdrawal a week ago and nothing heard since.
Now fearing money lost / stolen :-(
Is this company still under licence?
If so, surely they have to give customers access to their accounts to be legal?
Presumably any bookmaker licenced with the Gambling Commission has to commit to certain standards.
If a company ceases to operate how long before an official announcement has to be made?
The worst part is not knowing..

A little reminder for the GC those in the UK please remember to go and sign this. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/60846

I have a funny feeling Globet saw the Canbet situation as a good time to sneak out without too much of a fuss. Keep on the GC as this is another that falls on them.

The GC didn't suspend it... Globet surrendered it which unfortunately *I believe* is worse as far as hoping to get your cash back is concerned. Anyone in London: Go visit the address above NOW

    Surrendered

Where a licence is shown as surrendered, this indicates that a licensee has notified the Commission that the licence is no longer required.

Yes. Globet has advised the GC that they no longer intend to use the the license so they've given it up. They also had their Italian license revoked last year as they didn't want to meet the requirements necessary regarding keeping clients' money segregated.

When I bought their documents yesterday it included one that shows the government was going to initiate deregistering them as a company and an ad placed in the Gazette giving them 3 months notice to appeal this. However as their address had also been changed and company accounts filed within the past week, for all we knew it was an oversight due to an address change - which would explain their tech difficulties too - if all was on the up and up. That's why I suggested giving them a day or so to see SBR's report and have the chance to reply as that's only fair.

But first to dissolve the company they aren't forced to refund people having money on their accounts?

What GA do ? Nothing....its all ok for those?

The GC has told us many times regarding Canbet that they're not responsible for money lost. Same old story every time with this useless shitty commission.

I need to do some research now before advising you on the next step to take. I don't want to give you the wrong info and as I don't live in the UK I'm not automatically familiar with their laws. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of what you should do now pops into this thread. The GC though won't help you get your cash back although you should still hassle them for a response as they usually divulge a bit of what the sportsbook said to them.

I opened my account on 9 February 2014 - ie well after globet had submitted their winding up petition.
They were therefore taking my money under false pretences with the intention of never letting me access to my funds.
    Surely this is illegal?
How can I challenge this, does anyone know?

Some background that might help on this.

Banks normally freeze accounts of any business that has a winding-up petition against it. Legally they can't dispose of any assets either.

Looking at the circumstances again, the winding up petition was heard in the High Court on 17 Feb but I can't find out the outcome of this yet. It maybe that Globet came to an arrangement prior to the hearing, although this still has to take place if any other creditors pick up the action. Opening this sort of case doesn't come cheap - at least £2.5k minimum for the court fees, but Grant Thornton would have deep pockets.

The trading position of the company ought to become clear one way or the other soon, although it doesn't look good. If it ends up with the Official Receiver or appointed liquidator there will be an investigation into the conduct of the directors

The striking off notice may be totally separate. It indicates that Globet has not been communicating properly with Companies House, and from its point of view it suspects that the company has become moribund. A single objection from a creditor would stop this.

I first lost a lot of money with Canbet and had well over £500 with Globet, the Gambling commission have been useless and can give me no advice on who I should speak with or how I can try to claim my money back

Some really great info on this trail but anyone trying to claim their money back? Who is there I can go to and is there any chance of claiming my money back?

    Thanks for any info

    Hi Shari and SBR members!

I have registered with SBR a long time ago, still I was not active until now. I am pretty much in the same situation with GloBet site, as well.

More than 800 EUR was on my balance and I was trying to withdraw these funds since January...10 days ago...I realized they wont be back...

I work in gaming industry for more than 8 years, and I am pretty sure same people will not waste their time on getting our money back...They probably used a good opportunity to vanish without any consequences...

Other option - someone will buy take it over and bring the money back

Still, I managed to find this data from skrill:

The skrill account holder is Mauro Zeolla - even though I found bunch of Italian names when I was investigating Globet Limited, this is the first time I see this one...

Their merchant skrill account is LOCKED - which is very very strange, it looks like they have either request this, either someone from skrill actually locked them.

In the past I have received one email from "BozhidarC@globet.com" - Bozhidar is very common name in Bulgaria and Serbia. Also Skrill has some outsourced offices in Bulgaria, maybe someone was smart enough to lock their account with some balance.
Of this is the case, maybe we can contact skrill and inquire about the lock reason and their status.
Or at least to cancel the recent deposits - of any were made via skrill.

I will investigate further and will update you as soon as I have some more details.

In the meantime - check their website on a daily basis.
