    Default Passport authentication/forgeries

I have a scan of a German passport. I'm 99% sure it is a forgery.

Is there an easy way to confirm or deny its authentication, given the image of the passport, including name and passport number?

I would go to a pay phone and call Dept of Homeland security and see if they can direct you or call German Embassy

I've got a contact at the U.S. Embassy in Prague, but don't know anyone in Deutscheland. However, I just realized I know a P.I. firm that has a German contact, PM coming your way now.

The first 6 numbers at the bottom, after all the 000<< should read in the following format: YY/MM/DD i.e if the passport D.O.B is 06.01.1986 then those numbers should read 860106. That is usually something a rubbish forger tends to forget.

Since it is just a scan, I doubt you alone could tell.. unless it was a really shitty job

I wouldn't be calling any German Embassies if I had a scanned passport. You think the embassy would want to talk to someone from US with a suspected scan of a passport if he is not law enforcement?

If it is of any help. I can send you a copy of my (genuine) UK passport so that you can comare. All EU passports have the same layout.
    Let me know.

edit. Forgot to mention, my passport was issued in Singapore and therefore does not have the date information that Twister mentioned.

What do you mean by 'pre-EU'?
    That must be ancient.

I don't know about German passports, but not all European passports have the DOB immediately after the <<<<<<<<<<<<<'s

i just made a check with my passport number and got the following result:
    Personalausweisnummer korrekt!

    Daten der Ausweisnummer:

    Personalausweisnummer korrekt!

    Daten der Ausweisnummer:

Geboren am: XX.XX.xxx(Alter: 35) - I deleted my dob here

Der Ausweis ist noch gültig bis: 14.12.2012

    Kennzahl Erstwohnsitz: 1011 (siehe hier)
    Personenkennzahl: 12221
    translation for you
    ID card number correct
    Datas on the id:
    Date of birth:
    Valid until:
Number for city of residence (in Germany it is the City where the passpot was ordered and not where you actually live):
    Citizen number:

Then I typed in whatever number and got the follwoing result:
    Personalausweisnummer ungültig!

Fehler: Die Prüfsumme der Behördenkennzahl + Ausweisnummer stimmt nicht!
Fehler: Die Prüfsumme des Geburtsdatums stimmt nicht!
Fehler: Die Prüfsumme des Ablaufdatums stimmt nicht!
    Fehler: Die Gesamtprüfsumme stimmt nicht!

    translation:
I make it easy - Fehler means incorrect

Our passports here are pretty complex. They consist of several algorythms which I don`t know.

    I hope that helps.

    @Justin
We have two different passports here in Germany. I guess you mean this one here with pre-EU passport. This is our German national ID card

This is the other one which is for travelling outside of the EU

Furthermore we have driving licenses and will get e-passes in the future for online payments and online verification. Such an e-pass is just a couple of years away but they will definitely implement it.

The first one shown here is just a plastic card. The international passport is in such a folder:

As far as I know you guys just get passports on request. We are required to have national id cards. Whenever we are asked to show it by the police this is our identification card.
