I totally get why some of you might be reluctant but use a fake name, ask them to blur your face and hide your real voice, whatever it takes for you to feel comfortable while still getting your stories out there. Hell I'm on my son's parent committee for kindy so I'm not thrilled with broadcasting the whole gambling thing especially since I have no cash involved here. And beyond that I'll be exposing my identity to two guys who are by all accounts from those who know them: unsavoury to say the least. But this is worth it... the only hope we have of getting your money is to keep hammering Peter and Graeme every way possible as we have for the past 2 weeks. I can't do this alone and to be honest I shouldn't have to... a major international broadcaster wants to put your stories out so you have a better chance of recovering your money. Help them do that.

That's perfect! The more of these we have, the better the average person sitting at home can relate to the story. It's all well and good for me to chat about the whole thing - in painstaking detail Peter and Graeme - but viewers will react more if they can see actual victims of this scam. I've dropped the "allegedly" now because this is as alleged as OJ driving that white Bronco or Clinton having sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky. Everyone is watching this thread - including the GC - but this is the chance to drive the point home.

This makes for sobering reading considering the Gambling Commission's inaction with Canbet. This is a statement from their website on the 21st February:

The Gambling Commission has commenced a review under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005 and, under section 118 of the Act, has decided to suspend Operating Licence No 028788-R-310237-001 (Bodugi Limited) whilst that review takes place. The suspension is an interim measure, the need for which will be kept under consideration whilst the review takes place.

This step has been taken as a precautionary measure in the light of concerns which have been brought to the Commission’s attention about the ability of customers to withdraw their funds from Bodugi and the lack of response to the Commission’s requests to discuss our concerns.


The Commission will make no further comment at this stage.

So we are led to believe. However, none of the victims (ie. customers) are privvy to this so-called dialogue and correspondence, which is all far too convenient as far as I'm concerned. Despite what they might claim, the UK Gambling Commission can hardly be seen as an independent arbiter of what constitutes acceptable behaviour by the bookmakers they supposedly "regulate". This is from their Linked In page:


The Gambling Commission was set up under the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate commercial gambling in Great Britain.

We are an independent non-departmental public body (NDPB) sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and have more than 200 employees, mostly based in Birmingham. This includes around 30 compliance and enforcement managers working across the country.

Our work is funded by fees paid by the operators that we licence.


So they claim to be independent and have the power to revoke licenses, yet they receive funding from corporate bookmakers. At its most basic, there's a serious conflict of interests going on here. Without knowing anything about the conversations between the directors of Canbet, their auditor, and the GC, it's very difficult to accept that nothing untoward has taken place under the noses of the GC. If they didn't know the full extent of Canbet's financial woes, then they should have. But much worse, if they did know, then the hundreds (maybe even thousands) of innocent people affected have a right to know if the GC were complicit in covering up the truth.

Well it does mean that any self-professed claims about being independent are quite dubious. Especially when they've shown an unwillingness to disclose relevant information via multiple FOI requests. Just my humble opinion of course.
