I had £540 removed from my account as bonus forfeit on 31st Dec, I can't find the terms that I used to sign up, but i deposited on the 12th of Oct, which is 80 days of active bonus (if my maths is correct!) so they have taken my deposit and bonus, without regard for any terms that I have seen, be it terms with no expiry of bonus, 90 days, 60 days etc.

I really feel for the people who have got thousands stuck, and although my amount isn't huge the more people that come forward the better, and good luck/thanks to Shari and anyone who is willing to work on behalf of everyone to attempt to get the funds back.

OK, situation starting to heat up, I got same mail also. My amount is 10400 EUR, to add on list.
Regarding janetf8, they have rule in their standard promotion rules:
2.3.4 Bonuses that have not been converted into the Cash Balance within 90 days of being issued shall be forfeited.
Maybe this rule was applied here, and to others which bonuses forfeited.
Didn't receive respond from newspapers, but they read my story I hope, and my English is not so good, but they contacted some Aussies regarding this, and it is the better solution to speak with those persons than with someone from Europe.
Now we need to find who is auditor who provided wrong data to GC and us? I want a name. Who can provide that to us? Any thoughts?

Rule for September (my) promotion was :
The turnover requirements must be met within 60 days of the bonus being issued. If the bonus turnover requirements are not met within this period, the bonus and any bonus winnings accrued will be removed from your account.
Probably same was for October, but I am not sure.

That rule was never there in March/April... I know as I definitely checked...

I've not even mentioned I was limited to £10-20 bets so doing the huge turnover was virtually impossible..

    God I HATE this book...

What a disaster. I already ask where we can find changes but no one replied, Canbet updated their:
General Terms & Conditions on 15th November, 2013
General Betting Rules on October 1st, 2013

Rules of Play on 15th November, 2013
Privacy Policy on 28th November 2013
I didn't notified about any of this changes from Canbet, but I think that their duty is to notify players when make changes in their rules.
This rule I found on Promotion and Competition Rules which last updated on December 24th, 2012, so before your promotion.I am not sure about this, hopefully you are in right.

Please, add me to the list. I'm owed 4897 euro (account 1160869). I also encourage everybody reading this forum thread who hasn't spoken yet to give details what he/she is owed so that we end up with the list as close to real figure as possible. Very good work guys so far! Keep that pace!
If you know others who have money frozen on canbet and haven't read this forum let them know ASAP!

Yes you're right shari91, the bonus should be in there but this is only relevant in a couple of cases, but if anyone wants to change their amount (or wants to be added to the list) simply repost the amount and I'll swap it.
Which other forums are you looking at shari91?

I'll be looking wherever it comes up in a google search. Also people are emailing me so I'm adding them to the list as I go. Thinking about it, it's probably best if I just keep a list as there's no point in my typing up the amounts people email me and then you have to retype them again. Double the work that way.

How are you responding to complaints about Canbet?

    12 February 2014
Since we became aware of Canbet’s problems in November last year, we have kept in close touch with the company whilst they try to resolve matters. During that period the Gambling Commission has received some assurances about Canbet’s financial circumstances, most recently in a report from the company’s Group Auditor, dated 24 January 2014. Nevertheless, the backlog of customer payments has grown and deadlines for resolving the problems have passed.

This is a matter of great concern to us and there are difficult choices to be made. We are mindful of the need to balance the risks to the licensing objectives in the Gambling Act 2005 against the possible impact that any action the Commission takes against Canbet may have on its customers. Whilst we can stop a firm from trading if there is a risk to the licensing objectives, in cases such as this, suspension or revocation of an operating licence is highly likely to result in the company closing and customers having no chance of being repaid.

Read our frequently asked question; Is my money safe when deposited with a betting operator?

Sounds like they are saying there is nothing they can do apart from revoke the license, and for some reason they think that would mean Canbet would then not repay customers.

Be nice to know why they think that...

Sounds like they think the company does not have the funds suggested by the Auditor.

Has anyone asked the GC for the name of the auditor btw?

The story has just broken in the Australian media. An article from Melbourne's Herald Sun (Murdoch press, but we won't hold that against them!) It's the largest circulating paper in the country, so quite a few eye balls should see this, especially since it will most likely be seen on all other NewsCorp websites across the country.

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/law...-1226825190296

Incase there's a paid firewall for some people, here's the article in full:

Punters cash in limbo after online bookie freezes $300k

    • Stephen McMahon
    • Herald Sun
    • February 12, 2014 10:39PM

PUNTERS have been left almost $300,000 out of pocket by online bookmaker Canbet. After having accounts frozen for three months, disgruntled punters have begun legal action and flooded the Herald Sun with complaints about the two Australian-based directors Peter Lord and Graeme White after a missed deadline for payment.

But the directors are attempting a last-minute rescue package after the company’s major investor, Indian publicly-listed firm Delta, last week pulled the plug on plans to refinance the bookmaker to help pay off existing debts.
In a letter sent to customers on Wednesday, the directors of the UK licensed gambling operator apologised for failing to meet the previous payment promise for the end of January but pledged to sell assets to recoup funds and pay clients’ outstanding account balances.

The web-based bookie, which has a UK rather than Victorian gaming licence, offered live-in play odds on sporting events ranging from AFL to horse racing.

Sources close to the company said it is not "a Bill Vlahos type situation" and everything possible is being done to make sure account holders get their money back.

In January, however, the online sports betting operator stopped taking bets, blaming an IT malfunction for a short-term cashflow problem as the bonuses being offered outweighed deposits.

A director for Canbet said this has been a bruising period in which the leadership team have faced death threats and regular abuse.

"But we are working as diligently as we can to pay our debts," he said.

“We acknowledge that we had made previous statements that were made on the belief that these funds would be forthcoming and apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused. Such statements were made in good faith at the time they were made.”

The Herald Sun visited the parent company’s office in Melbourne this week but was denied entry.
The bookmaker’s legal representative said Canbet denied that people were being “ripped off” but accepted people were awaiting payment.

But Ben Ashworth, who is owed about $2000 and has begun legal action in the UK to get his money back after almost three months, warned the promises have come to nothing so far.

"I’m worried that ... there will be other victims in the future," he said.

After being contacted about the case by the Herald Sun the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation said it had nothing to do with them.

"Canbet is an online bookmaker and is licensed in the United Kingdom — therefore it comes under the jurisdiction of the UK Gambling Commission," a VCGLR spokesman said.

    What a joke,

the GC finally have become concerned............... we have been banging on about Canbets problems since November.
How can they be ok financially on the 24th Jan 2014 and not now? They have not been trading since 31st December. This is daylight robbery and I am personally not going to let this go - We have all been the victims of a very well planned crime. We are coming for you Mr Canbet directors.

Great job getting the story into the Herald Sun guys! I didn't talk to them - I had lengthy chats with Channel 7 and the ABC - so hopefully this is just one in the first of several stories we see pop up soon. It's too bad the HS didn't discuss the way they were accepting deposits while broke but I emphasised that repeatedly in my discussions and an investigative team is now working on the story. So as always: The more info we can find and the more people who are owed money the better as they're all watching this thread now.
