anyone notice these type of bets ok you can take minnesota at -4.5 or you could take them up to -5.5 with reduced vig. Why in the world would I want to raise points on a favorite ?Man this is got to be the most stupidest kind of betting I ever heard of. Man greed can cause you to get slaughtered by the books.

because depending on where the juice goes it may be a better bet. if the true line is -4.5 at -110 and you can get -5.5 at +100 you have gone from -4.45 edge to -3.36 edge. In football the difference between 4.5 and 5.5 is usually negligible. Now to go from 6.5 to 7.5 is a whole different story.

Would you lay an extra point on the favorite if it meant getting 2-1 odds instead of even money, how about 10-1?

Laying extra points on the favorite (or taking less points on an underdog) at better odds is no worse than buying points and getting reduced odds. Both scenarios result in higher "vig" paid to the sportsbook.

The reason why 5 Dimes allows the player to lay more points at better odds is because they are giving the player the option to do the opposite (buying points at reduced odds).

Gambling is all about expected values. I might love a bet at 6-1 but hate it at 4-1.

Find the percentage of times 5 would hit in this game, find the percentage difference in the vig from 4.5 to 5.5. Then you could figure what is the better bet.
