Stop Stan James can't afford losing $305

I just got this email from StanJames....

---

Dear Mr "Cyntax",
I am writing to inform you that due to the unprofitable nature of your account it will be closed with immediate effect.
Internal funds will be transferred to you in the usual manner.
Yours sincerely
Padma Cara
International Administrator
Stan James Plc.
No 1, The Square, Marina Bay, Gibraltar.
Email: service@stanjames.com

----

About two weeks ago I made a deposit of 20000 SEK ($2620/£1587/€1862) and in two weeks I won about 2330 SEK ($305) ... "unprofitable nature"

StanJames must be really short of cash now.

go with pinnacle , or 5dimes if you are a soccer player, or betfair, and matchbok and you don't need to worry about them closing your account at least not with matchbook , not exactly sure about betfair, but if you don't want an exchange then go with pinnacle , greek or 5dimes

Cyntax, Am I right in remembering that you said before that you arb / sure bet only? Perhaps, then, StanJames just identified this within a couple of bets and shut you down. Arbers certainly aren't profitable for books in the long run.

I've won a fair bit from Stan James in the past, and haven't been limited. Presumably because I'm super-square.

Cyntax, I got the same e-mail from SJ about two months ago. For the last 3-4 years I have had very low limits with them, but I placed couple of 10-20€ bets each month (I am not an arber!). This with closing the accounts must be something new. If you had lost those 20000SEK, they wouldn't close your account, and you would have high limits for your bets, that's for sure (if you had even more to lose). That is the way all British bookies work.

Maybe it's because I always bet the limit?

Yeah sounds like either you're arbing, or they thought you we're arbing...

Either way, there's plenty of other books out there

I'm sure there's not a book out there that likes arbers.

They are "the scum of the industry" so I've heard

Somebody who 'buys' a bet at a bookie and sells it for a better price at an exchange (or dutches it with another book) in order to make a guaranteed profit.

Ahhhh, Stan James. Brings back fond and ancient memories......I believe they were the first book to limit/ban me many, many years ago. Busted my cherry, so to speak and thus have a special place in my heart.....

As for the OP, though, being shown the door is not usually a sign of financial insolvency, it would actually indicate that risk mgmt are doing their jobs.
