Online poker licenses official in Nevada

Earlier today, SBR reported that the Nevada Gaming Commission was set to meet at 10AM local time to go over interactive gaming license applications in Nevada; which would permit licensed operators to provide interactive gaming services, including online poker within Nevada. Bally Technologies Inc. has been given the first such license.

In addition to Bally's license, one hour later the Nevada Gaming Commission granted the same license to International Game Technology (IGT).

No, but they are going to be designed to ensure the user is physically located in Nevada when playing online poker. How they'll accomplish this and weed out VPN users remains to be seen, but you probably wouldn't want to risk it.

The Control Board Chairman gave a 7+ month estimate until the games are actually in place so we'll know more once stuff is actually close to rolling out. Either way, an exciting time and an important step in the right direction for poker players.

used to like online poker, but with sports betting there's no comparison.

poker can take anywhere from 1-5 hrs and you can't do anything else. Sports betting I can do anything I want.

Coming from someone who has an advanced degree in public policy and worked with legislation, I wonder how long it will be until someone finds a loophole in the system and expliots it to allow out of state users and how long it'll be until or if Nevada corrects it. It could be a blessing for states with small populations but it could also f it up for everybody.

Yeah, and maybe it's a situation where an IP address is good enough; or you'd be asked to show travel vouchers if not registered as a NV resident. All depends on how aggressive the KYC will be done. You'd have to think the hard part is done though as far as Nevada public officials are concerned. Now it's just setting up shop before raking in heaps of cash.

There are already measures in place for intrastate sports wagering through the Internet and mobile apps. Surely, there won't be any differences.

Typically, it requires a verified GPS location for mobile apps and certain Internet providers/IP ranges for wired users.

What 3 million people live in Nevada? The BC/Quebec poker site here in Canada draws from about 12 million people and I see 17 full tables at full-ring texas holdem, highest limit .5/$1.

It will most likely be done the same way the Station's Sports Connection is done. Deposit/withdraw at a Stations property, showing ID each time. Connect to the gambling software only through a non-internet online connection that monitors IP address. People without broadband are out of luck. Betting limits are kept at least somewhat low.

I'm sure it's somehow possible for out-of-staters to beat the current system in place with the Sports Connection, but the risk/reward ratio is too low to make it worthwhile. I suspect it will be the same for poker.

There are people in Nevada who don't live in Vegas and still want to play poker. BTW, the "big deal" is this is the first step toward legalization in other states, and maybe even cross-state legalization.

Until we can get federal approval and include all states and hopefully the rest of the world this intrastate nonsense is pretty meh if the states have tiny populations like Nevada. Get Florida, Cali, NY and then we can have some games

I can only hope that this is but the first step into legalizing online poker throughout the nation. Unlike most I would hope that it eventually be operated and taxed by the US Government. That portions of those taxes be assessed to individual states where the player resides and the remainder of the taxes be funneled back into the Social Security program that has been borrowed against to fund other government agencies and programs. I know its unrealistic but we all have silly dreams. >>

Exactly, I mean do you know what Nevada is without gambling....DESERT, just absolute desert. I heard you get like 2 years for cheating in Vegas and shit I mean you could curbstomp a nun here in Memphis and not get but 6 months-1 year.

Any request that will bring in more gambling dollars to Vegas is going to be approved at all levels of state government, I mean what are they gonna do deny gambling and shut down their whole economy? Nevada basically is the one state that acts outside federal laws, I would compare it to a giant Indian reservation, it has no purpose other than for gambling and testing nukes and they quit testing nukes so they better allow gambling.

Get real Nevada is Vegas, Reno and Tahoe...all with tons of casinos within walking distance. The rest of Nevada is fukin empty desert with about 100 hicks without internet, hell they used to test nuclear weapons out there its so fukin empty.

Nevada has always played by its own rules, gambling always legal, sportsbetting always legal, prostitution legal, this has done nothing to influence the rest of the country
