Atlantic City to be the next Vegas

Atlantic City is not only aggressively pursuing online gaming, but it looks as if its inevitable AC will have sports betting in the near future. It is the biggest joke that currently there are only four states that allow sports wagering. If you want to speak of the definition of what a monopoly is look at Vegas. How is it possible that right now they are the only state that gets to capitalize off of this? Two New Jersey congressman are currently try to push separate bills into action that would immediately allow for sports betting in AC. Christie has signed off on it and I believe its just a matter of time. States are in desperate need of an added tax revenue and there is nothing more perfect then this. For all my fellow tri state folks get excited.

If AC gets sports betting it would be equivalent to Vegas. AC has even more of a plus because during the summer it is right on the beach where Vegas is in the middle of a desert.

Sports betting isn't going to save AC let alone make it equal to Las Vegas... But enjoy those "nice" beaches...

Sports wagering is what separates Vegas from any other US gambling destination. When Jersey pushes this through you will start slowly seeing the demise of Vegas. For anyone on the East coast if you only had to go to AC to wager why would you even need to travel to Vegas?

AC is hurting because in PA and CT there are closer casinos that make it easier to gamble where you don't have to take the longer ride to AC. 15 years ago AC was the biggest gambling destination on the east coast because they didn't have any competitors, however with the addition of sports AC will again separate itself to be a main destination. I mean lets be honest we all go to Vegas to bet on sports. AC has good enough night life to where the addition of sports gaming would generate an unreal amount of added foot traffic.

I mean very simply AC has a good enough club and bar scene where with the addition of sports somebody please tell me the reason to go to vegas.

How many people make a decision to go to Vegas to sports bet, maybe 2-3% tops? Most casinos are happy to outsource their books and look at them as loss leader...

Sorry AC's day is long past and sports betting isn't going to be it's savior...

I go about once a yr to Vegas because the atmosphere there to gamble right now cannot be competed by anything else, but I'm telling you if AC offered sports wagering I would just go there. Believe me you cant tell the difference from blacking out in Vegas to blacking out in AC. ha!

Hell if it wasnt for shows and clubs vegas would prab loose 60% of its visitors. People obviously gamble when their there but theres so many casinos these days you dont have to fly half the country to gamble.

Its not about really stealing people away from Vegas to go to AC, but of just getting back the increased foot traffic from the surrounding local area . In essence sports wagering would add an exponential increase in revenue. The increased profit potential is what would inevitably build AC back up. Don't get me wrong Las Vegas is not gonna close shop because of this, but AC will be back on the map.

Why would I be walking on the boardwalk at 3am? Borgata has some very nice clubs and bars. Harrahs has the sick pool party...plenty of options.

I wouldn't go to AC to play a wager either. The internet is 1000% easier. In 20 years, only Caesar's, Bally's, Borgota, that new one they built and the Taj will be in Atlantic city. Not a profitable place to be anymore. Casinos opening in Delaware, Pa, Ny, and I think at the Meadowsland. Why drive to the crime infested slum?

Or hell even drive across town (twice as you have to go back to cash the ticket)? When I lived in Vegas (or even now when I visit) almost all my sports bets were/are made offshores (with many made 20 feet outside a sportsbooks)...

Three things are hurting Atlantic City

    1. The city is a ghetto. It is hard to imagine it being worse now than 25 years ago, but it is. The casinos and city had 40 years to clean it up, and make it into a paradise - but all of the money went to the corporations and corrupt politicians.

    2. Atlantic City is 2.5 hrs from NYC. 1 hour from Philly. Now those folks don't have to travel that far to gamble. They have 4 casinos right next door to them in PA. Another couple in NY. You still have Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in CT. Delaware is a factor to the south.

    3. The business models still have hotels on a Saturday night costing $250-$400. That was fine when they were a monopoly, but now - it doesn't work.

Sports betting would be a unique offering that the nearby states woudn't have...... yet. If they get it, do you think the money is going to fix the place up? Nope, they will milk the cow dry again, then in a couple of years, the other states will have it also, and they will be right back in the same position.

So tell me again why I would go to Atlantic City?
    - Beautiful beaches? Umm, no
    - Nice atmosphere? If you like panhandlers and bums.
    - Cheap hotel rooms? Still no, sadly.
    - Vibrant bustling boardwalk, with lots of shops and eateries? Nope, over half have closed.
    - Close, easy to get to location? Not really, at least in compasion of the competition.

You had your chance Atlantic City. Now go f*ck yourself while I drive to PA to gamble in the new flashy, clean casino.

Anyone who thinks Atlantic City would be even close to Vegas if they had sports gambling is completely retarded. You probably have never been to Vegas. Oh I can't wait to go spend 300 bucks a night on a fukin hotel room in Atlantic City, especially when I can spend like 70 a night to stay on the strip in vegas.

Vegas is better for drinking, clubs, shows, EVERYTHING. In N Out Burger, Fatburger, Del Taco... get a clue.

Las Vegas took a shit and Atlantic City came out.

In my 10-12 times going to AC for business, the place is a dump. Boardwalk and Casino's just okay. A block away the place looks like Beirut. Sportswageing will have no major impact whatsoever.
