    Default do NOT use betfair

here's a little warning for you guys. Once again the BetFair site went offline. I was halfway through a trading process when I could not use the site any more. I don't know which wagers they accepted and which not. These blackouts can cost you some money.. and it's not that this happens the first time with betfair
so.. stay away If you do not wanna get angry

    Just plain stupid!
Name one site in the world, bookmaker, bank, retailer or other which from time to time doesn't have a connection problem.
Arbing and trading do have risks associated with them and need to be factored into your strategy.
Betfair is the premier betting site on this planet and I will continue to use them.

thanks to the breakdown I made more money than expected
    but that doesn't matter

it's a bad thing when this happens twice or three times during a week...
however I just wanted to warn you

I think I'll write again if they charge me the with those high roller fees that they have installed..

    Yes Mexes -

And when you hit this, please let us know

Each week Betfair will calculate your ‘gross profits’* made, and your ‘total charges’** generated over the lifetime of your account. The details of these calculations are explained below.

You’ll only be considered for the Premium Charge if your account is in profit and only if the total charges generated since joining Betfair are less than 20%† of your gross profits.

The vast majority of customers, and even the majority of those whose betting on Betfair is profitable since they joined, do not meet both these conditions and will not incur the Premium Charge.

...Customers will only be considered for the Premium Charge after they have bet in more than 250 markets.

    And to make it simpler:

You will only be considered for the Premium Charge if, over the lifetime of your account, you satisfy the following criteria:

    Your account is in profit;

Your total charges generated are less than 20%† of gross profits; and

You bet in more than 250 markets.

Two further conditions reduce the likelihood that you will be required to pay the Premium Charge:

Any single win that constitutes more than 50% of your gross profits over the lifetime of your account will be excluded from the calculation; and

Each customer will have a lifetime allowance of £1,000 against the Premium Charge.

Each week the customers who meet all the conditions set out above will be charged the lesser of:
The difference between 20%† of the previous week’s gross profits and the total charges generated during the week; and
The difference between 20%† of gross profits and the total charges generated during the lifetime of the account.

While the premium charge is only levied against a small group of people, it would NEVER be tolerated if BetFair had strong competition in their marketplace.

The premium charge is just a mechanism to penalize consistent success and is progressive in nature.

When using any service/website it's important to keep informed on their system availability, particular so when it's directly related to money. Most sites (well the good ones) will warn when they have planned system outages. Anything unplanned is just unlucky and all sites suffer these from time to time.

I got an email from Betfair well in advance of their recent downtime that said they were doing upgrades. So I was prepared and used other books that day even though Betfair was up when I was looking at prices. I wasnt prepared to risk it suddenly going down.

When betting/trading, having the right information is critical. This includes planned system outages.

If this happens, does anyone know if you could call them and sort out your bet over the phone (assuming their phone lines aren't flooded with calls)?

For a place that is supposedly "the best place to bet in the world" it is pathetic! Might as well rename it singlebets.com

betfair just changed the odds on me without my confirmation and placed the bet, this happens regularly. the lowered the odds without my permission. pathetic!!!!! they were already low odds, and a low stake to begin with!!!!

But that is how an exchange works. Just leave the bet/odds you wanted up and as long as there is not a big shift in the market it will almost certainly get 'filled' later.

I understand that odds change but to accept only some of the stake and then offer less for the remainder is not cool

1.18 is available now, go for it.

If you put a further back bet up at 1.19, within the next 15 minutes - I guarantee it will be filled!
