Default Canbet Now Charging $5 Per Month For "Inactive" Accounts

    FYI ....

I just talked to a guy I know. He stopped gambling right after Neteller got shut down, but because of some tax problems on his end, he chose to leave some of his funds at a couple of his books until he straightened out his tax problem.

He said that he logged into his account tonight, after not having logged in for a number of months, and noticed that Canbet has been charging him $5 per month for the last 10 months or so, calling it an "Inactivity Fee".

This is for an account that has a balance above $10K. The guy didn't expect to receive interest on the $10K, but he certainly wasn't pleased to find out that he was getting charged a $5 per month fee.

Pretty weak on the part of Canbet ... it's not like they're sending out a monthly paper statement that would actually cost them money and possibly justify the fee.

Looks like Canbet is following [SBRFORUM]Partypoker[/SBRFORUM] footsteps when it comes to this newly created hidden charge. I can only wonder what book will be the next to follow suit.

I wonder how long they consider inactive?

It's kind of worse than that: 1.6.3 implies that if you don't claim your funds within 6 months of your account becoming 'dormant', then they will steal your entire balance.

    "1.6 Dormant Accounts
1.6.1 It is recorded that the provisions of this Clause 1.6 only apply if a Players account at the Sportsbook constitutes a Dormant Account.
1.6.2 An Account Management fee of £2.00 / €3.00 / $5.00 per month will be debited from any account that is dormant.
1.6.3 Any credit balance standing to a Dormant Players credit in his or her Cash balance in his or her Dormant Account, less any Account Management fees charged, will be refunded to the Player providing that the player claims his or her Cash Balance from the Sportsbook within six (6) months of the Players account becoming a Dormant Account. If the Cash Balance in a Dormant Account remains unclaimed for a period of six (6) months, any sums contained therein shall be forfeited to the Sportsbook."

The question remains how they define dormant..

I vote for carpet bombing them, although that might be too good for em...

Well okay. I was leaning towards just not leaving money dormant in a Canbet account - but carpet bombing it is.

I guess times are a changing for the worse Peep.

I remember back in August we had to assist an SBR poster who had his funds lost due to a dormant account at Sportbet. Anyway, they not only corrected the problem but gave the player a $50 "inconvenience bonus".

C'mon guys. Is there any, one single, story of Canbet confiscating the funds in a dormant account?

This is just fishing for negative information on a book. If you're not going to use a sportsbook for six months, take the money out. Problem solved.

That's not entirely true DH. Inactivity fees might become more common with Euro books in the near future. Now if Canbet can get away with such actions, I'm sure others will try and follow suit at some point.

    Uh,

    YES.

Read first post of thread. $50 confiscated.

At $5 per month I'm not going to take that too serious. I was referring to confiscation of a balance.

It's not that I agree with any book taking out money, but what are we even talking about here?

    OK, understand.

Banks up here in Canada do that, they charge a dormant account a monthly charge until they steal all the money in it.

They figure if you have the money, they have the time I guess.

IMHO this balance confiscation after 6 month of inactivity has nothing to do with scam from bookmakers it is directly related with money laundering policy.

    Update for anyone affected:

Apparently, it's Canbet's policy to reimburse the "Inactivity" fees that they charge if the account becomes active again ... but they don't do it automatically ... you have to ask them to reimburse the fees that were deducted.

Canbet are just doing what other Aussie books have gotten away with for a while, led by the formerly govt-run TABs, who just copied the thieving Aussie banks.

Moral of the story, don't have so much money you forget about an account for six months...
