would u happen to know how long checks take to clear assuming i have enough to cover the check in my account to begin with

depends on the bank -- most banks will put a 10 day/2 week hold, but i've heard as much as 30 days if they so choose

those places might not even cash them for you. with the current financial crisis they're very hesitant to cash checks from banks that they deem to be unsafe.

The checks take a long time to clear....Your bank may very well clear the funds then come back to you weeks later and say they bounced. This has happend to me...Bank of America does clear my checks as a service overnight.....
