--There are several brick-and-mortar sports books located in downtown San Jose, including ones inside the Sleep Inn, Sportsmens Lodge and ChuBBs Sports Bar. Tropical Sports Book on the second floor of Club Morazan is my favorite stand-alone sports book. There were several signs posted inside the establisment that added charm and flavor to the sports betting experience there. Two of the signs read: "Lost tickets cannot and will not be honored" and "Absolutely no credit. Don't even ask." A clerk at the Tropical Sports Book told me their handle pales in comparison with the leading offshore sports books. Despite respectable limits of $3,000, the tiny sports book writes very little business outside of the football season. One clerk told me, "We're not CRIS. They're the best and I think they're the biggest. I heard they made $126 million last year and that comes from a very reliable source." The clerk punctuated his information by saying "CONFIRMED" several times.

    here is something to compare

BOOKMAKER Ladbrokes reported a bounce-back in quarterly profits yesterday after it benefited from a stronger start to the English football season.

Operating profits rose from last year’s £22.4m to £51.1m in the three months to September 30, following a 15% improvement in the amount of money left by losing UK shop customers over the period.

Last year’s trading performance was impacted by a winning start to the football season by Chelsea and Manchester United and the low incidence of draws – the bookies’ favourite result.

With Ladbrokes also benefiting from a profitable end to the World Cup and a stronger performance from its gaming machines, the company said its UK shop revenues for the three-month period were up by 12%.

How can we be sure what the real number is? Are we in the room when it's all being counted. How can you really know what is true?

So if their hold is 5% the good people of the world wagered $2.5 billion last year with CRIS?

Let's add it up. I bet around $25,600,750 there last year.

    Next?

The only "CONFIRMED" profit or loss figures come from public companies.

Do any of the internet books in CR have a walk up service???

    I would say they held 3% of a billion = 30m
Tops they held 3.5% of 1.5 bil

Really doubt they make that much compared to the bigger Euro books.

It would be interesting to know what they did make. I know $126M seems like a lot but a local casino in my area made a net profit of $200M. They are just serving this region whereas Bookmaker services the entire world with multiple brands. I could see $126M. If you look at Ladbrokes the conversion is $81M and don't forget Ladbrokes has much higher operating expenses, taxes, etc. Bookmaker gets cheap labor, taxes, real estate, etc.

cyberinvestor, the ladbroke figure refers to a quarter, so maybe the 81m could be 324m

  30. #30

I didn't even notice that it was just a quarter. In that case they could easily be $320M which means CRIS could be pulling in $126M for the year.

  31. #31

    Default

yea thats insane..think of the casino racebook poker and sportsbook

ladbrokes made that much in a quarter makes CRIS # sound more reasonable

My guess is they make 10 to 25 million in profit after expenses. I know this is a wide range, and I would guess closer to the 20 number. Numbers 100+ are way off the mark in my opinion.

  33. #33

    Default

It's got to be over $100 MM. 10-20 MM seems way to small for CRIS who is the best when it comes to not limiting players.

I hope they are making tens of millions per year, because I have been absolutely killing them lately.
