Arce - Lookmahanak
If you're looking to make some easy money, Jorge Arce is fighting in Mexico against a Thai fighter, Devid Lookmahanak.
The Thai fighter is the Asian Boxing Council champion - which is a farce in itself. Although the organization is supposed to be an Asian organization, it's a Thai organization. Whenever a fighter becomes the ABCO champion, they automatically go up in the World Boxing Council's ratings. Thing is, the ABCO champion is usually fighting stiffs so he's certain to win.
Thai is one reason why Thai's almost always lose when fighting abroad - they're almost never as good as their records seem. Lookmahanak got knocked out a few fights back by a guy they thought was a tomato can but he was ok. He got KO'd in 2 and yet somehow, after fighting three more bums, he's in a title eliminator against Arce.
Arce just blew out another Thai stiff, Medgoen Singsurat, in one round. My guess is that Lookmahanak, while a little younger than Singsurat, isn't going to make it past 4 rounds. I'm not sure what the over/under is but if it's 5 rounds +, I'd take the under.
Also, if you've got $10 g's to plop down to win $500, there is no way Arce is going to get beat in Mexico, by this guy. This is as much of a lock as you'll get. I'm putting down 2 g's to win the $100, that's how confident I am of Arce getting the "W."

I'm not going to need luck. The Thai couldn't beat Arce on his best day even if he brought a baseball bat

Not worth the risk, no matter how you slice it, fella. That's ridiculous chalk.
Have you seen the weigh in pictures. Thai dude looks on the tough side to me and is a southpaw to boot. Not Arce's favorite style.

I live in Thailand and cover boxing in Asia for most of the major mags. I know the Thai quite well and have been to his gym many times. I also know Arce, and know that the Thai, while he looks good, has absolutely no chin and isn't anywhere near as skilled as Arce.
Also - whenever a Thai fights abroad, his chances of winning drop to around 1% - seriously. Lookmahanak has been fed a stream of bums and has been handed this title shot for no good reason. He's not going to last more than 6 rounds, at most. Like I said, this is as much a lock as you'll ever get.

Well I won the straight bet and a couple of parlays but Arce broke his hand during the bout and had a tough time of it. He won though, and in this case, that's all that matters.

Arce did not win that fight. Some very knowledgeable boxing insiders, been covering the game for years gave your Thai guy, who you gave no shot, 8 of the 12 rounds. Arce got the home town cooking and you got lucky at -2000

Just saw this...
Well my friend, quite a few "very knowledgable boxing insiders" that I know said told me that while it was close, Arce did just enough to win the fight. Bottom line is, and you should know this, if you're fighting at home you have a scoring edge. It happened in Marquez-John, Arce-Lookmahanak, and countless others.
That Thai guy but destroyed by an absolute bum and has been very flaky at home but in this case it was more a sign of how far Arce has fallen. I spoke to Lookmahanak around a week ago and what he told me was that although he thought he fought the best he ever had in his career (definitely), he wasn't shocked at the scores and had no problem with the judges thinking he lost because he thought he should have done more in the later part of the fight.
If they fight a rematch in Vegas (for which there are talks going on), I still won't give him a chance. -2000 is steep, agreed, but 99% of the Thais who fight outside of Asia get stomped or always come up short (as with Lookmahanak). The notable exceptions have been Sithchatchawal and Yodsanan who I'll see fight this week.
In this case luck had nothing to do with it. Arce won and that's all that counts - luck or not.

And the fact that it was in Mexico - ie his hometown is something you should always take into consideration. I take it you saw the fight?

Yes I have the fight on DVD. Laying those types of odds on Arce ever again would be suicidal. He lost very clearly, the fight wasn't that close.

And despite your thoughts, I won the bet.
Lookmahanak will NEVER be a world champion, believe me. Arce is on the decline, clearly, and he'll be lucky to regain a title - if he does, he won't hold it for long.

Good for you. In the long run that is a losing type of bet.

The fact is you got lucky. Arce did NOT deserve to win the fight. 20-1 favs aren't supposed to get there ass kicked and need a gift decision. LOL
