Charlie Weis signs 10-year contract, to coach Notre Dame through 2015
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- First-year Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis signed a new 10-year contract Saturday that will keep him as the Irish coach through the 2015 season.
Weis, whose No. 9 Fighting Irish are off to a 5-2 start this season, signed a six-year contract that ran through 2010 when he was hired last December. The new 10-year agreement takes effect next season.
``In a very short period of time, Charlie has clearly and impressively demonstrated the ability to take the Notre Dame program where we all want it to go,'' Notre Dame athletics director Kevin White said.

Charlie has been very solid, but 10 years for an unproven coach is too much.

He desreves it.. That ND offense is awesome. If he can get a little better talent on defense they could be national champs in a couple of years which is incredible considering where they were when he took over.
Count me in as a big Coach Weis fan!

BB, there were a couple of NFL teams looking at his contract for a possable buyout. so, they must have felt that chuck was the right man for the job for the next 10 years.

Not to seem cynical but this reaks of latent racism.
Tyrone Willingham starts out 8-0...a lot of marquees wins his first year. Played very competitively and doesn't get anything.
Weiss starts out 5-2....loss at home to a mediocre MSU team and then a very good game against USC but wins against overrated Pitt, Purdue, and Michigan.
Give me a break. They should have learned from Bob Davie....I'd love to see Weiss screw up now.
ND is nothing special....the glory days are just that.

weiss knows what hes doing. He will take notre dame to the next level. These are the types of trends we ntoice at vegas. He started out this year with 2 losses so far, now his recriutiment will be much better. he was already one of the elite recruiters last year. imagine next year. notre dame will make a good run for national champs. mark the money line makers words

BB, this is one of the worst posts I've seen you make. I think you've been spending a little too much time on campus. You need to come visit me up north for a while.
People think that Parcells and Belichick are such coaching legends. I think Weiss had more to do with that than people think. There isn't a better offensive football mind on the planet than Charlie Weiss and he had a number of NFL teams looking at him. The Irish made a brilliant move here. Weiss gives them incredible recruitment credibility. If you were a star prep athlete, could you imagine Weiss coming into your living room with his FOUR Super Bowl rings telling you stories of Brady & Co.? He brings respect and credibility back to South Bend. Not to mention that The Irish are already one of the top 10 teams in the country this season. Weiss will get at least 1 national championship in that decade contract, if not more.
To say this is racism and to compare Weiss to Willingham is a joke. Weiss has FOUR Super Bowl rings (1 in NY and 3 in NE) and just gave the nation's best team (USC) everything they could handle in just his first year. There are many NFL teams that are kicking themselves in the ass for not getting him before Notre Dame. Why does everything have to be about race in this country? Ray Rhodes gets fired, its racism. New NBA dress code, its racism. New Orleans is flooded, its racism. Contrary to what Reverend Jackson will tell you, not everything in this world is black and white. As a matter of fact, most of it is a gray area. Are there great black coaches? Absolutely! Marvin Lewis immediately comes to mind. Are there great white coaches? Absolutely! Parcells, Belichick, Shannahan. Are there moron black coaches? Yep. Willingham and sometimes Herman Edwards. Are there moron white coaches? Yep, too many to name but two Mikes come to mind, Martz and Tice. Not everything has to be about race, politics, sexual orientation, or creed. Sometimes things just are what they are.

First of all I said this is latent racism. I didn't say it is racism. There is a big difference. All I am saying is that this is a major overreaction on ND's part. They signed Bob Davie to a long term deal and that busted in their face and Bob Davie is still laughing to the bank.
What Weiss did in the Pro ranks doesn't really apply much here. This is college. We could say the same thing of Spurrier in the NFL. Success doesn't always correlate on both levels. In fact it is very rare.
Now the facts are the facts. ND has beat very overrated teams in PITT, Purdue, Michigan, BYU, and soon an overrated Tenn team. There is nothing special about those teams.
All I am saying is that ND made this mistake before and now they are doing it again but it is very suprising that you think that somehow Willingham is not as good...he started out 8-0....ND fans had the same reaction but Willingham didn't get the same del. Willingham took Standford to the Rose Bowl and had success there....he got a raw deal at ND as far as I am concerned.
Take my word...Weiss is nothing special and just b/c things have looked good to start it doesn't merit a 10 yr extension. ND should have waited.
