    Default TheAntidote's Soccer Thread

Ok, so I had a World Cup thread (who didn't, right?) which was mainly created to see if I could turn a $100 freeplay into something. Since the World Cup is over and that bankroll is still going, I thought I'd start a general soccer thread tracking my plays.

Today I'll be betting the following:

    Celtic/Manchester United O 2 1/2
    20 to win 14.08

    Original Bankroll: $81.02
    Rolled over/Requirement: 424.90/648.16
    Current Bankroll: $94.96
    Pending Plays: $20.00

Well, could be worse, got half that bet back. I'm not sure how to grade it. Should this count as one loss and one push? For other AHs I haven't been grading a win as 2 wins, so should this be half a loss and half a push? I just want to make sure my record isn't misleading.

Well, it's really a subjective thing for my record on SBR in my signature. I think I might go with half loss, half push since I haven't been counting wins on Asian Handicaps as 2 wins.

Alright, I play my High School Alumni Soccer game tonight. At 25 years old, I'll be the oldest guy on the field, but I still hope to play well. We won last year, and I don't plan on losing tonight. After that I will be up north all weekend and probably wont make any plays. Good luck to all that make some plays this weekend, screw those books hard!

Crazy weekend, don't remember a lot of it, drank a bit much. Made a small play from my BetUS account on the Cubs/Cardinals game. Picked over 6.5 runs scored, it's 3-3 in the 10th inning.

I would really like to bet on the MLS All Star game tonight, but BetPhoenix doesn't have a line for the game at the moment. Hopefully they post some lines later today. I'm thinking an Over 2.5 goals looks good in that one, but we will have to see the price. BetUS has MLs for the game, but being the shit site they are, no over/unders.

    OK, my pick for today:

    MLS All Star/Manchester United O 2.75
    15 to win 12.10

    Original Bankroll: $81.02
    Rolled over/Requirement: 459.50/648.16
    Current Bankroll: $124.54
    Pending Plays: $15

For those wondering about the MLS All Star game, here is my two cents:

While on paper you would think Manchester United would absolutely dominate this game, I would suggest looking at some historical data. The MLS All Stars, in this current game format, have never lost an All Star game - in fact, they've won every one of them since 2005. In 2005, they beat Fulham 4-1. In 2006, they beat Chelsea 1-0. 2007, Celtic lost 2-0, West Ham lost in 2008 3-2, and last year Everton lost on penalties after a 1-1 regular time draw. Now this might not seem like much because the All Star teams change every year, correct? Well, yes and no. Overall they change, but so many of the same players are elected to the team every year that they actually HAVE played with each before. Several players, including Dwayne DeRosario, Landon Donovan, Kyle Beckerman, Shalrie Joseph, and Juan Pablo Angel have all played in at least 3 of the last 5 All Star games.

Now if stats don't convince you, look at it this way. While this is an exhibition match for Man United, one where they will most likely use a lot of subs that you wont normally see in the Prem, this is a trial for MLS players. The MLS players will be trying their hardest to beat Man United and put on a good individual performance in the hopes that someone recognizes them. I'm not saying Omar Gonzales is suddenly going to get a contract with Man U, but after the 2005 All Star game played against Fulham, Clint Dempsey was given a contract with Fulham, so it's certainly not unrealistic.

I'm not saying go out and pound the All Star ML, but I think there is some value in it. I actually put down a small bet in my BetUS account on the All Star ML @ +300, though I wouldn't be surprised if I lost. My point here is that Man United isn't going to have the easy game that so many people seem to think they will.

I will probably sleep for 3 hours.....wake up and see the first half, then take a cab and then the train. Before getting in the train, I will buy 2 McNuggets menus (large) )
On my way to the seaside, i will recover the missing hours of sleep....

Tommy, I'm not finding the starting lineups. Probably wont find them until minutes before the game. Unfortunately there are plenty of game "rosters" but no official lineup.
