    Post Late night play-Australia

    Newcastle/Sydney, who you got?

    Leaning towards Newcastle PK

I was going to make a thread, but I will just add to this. The play here is 2-3 Goals total.

    Pick it and win..

Yeah A-League can hit alot over 2.5 goals. Sydney with Brosque are a much better unit on the field!

Waiting to see if my NBA bets hit before I go on this match.

i like sydney and the over right now

I am liking Sydney with their most potent attacking finisher playing. Though Branko's Jets have a habit of making themselves a nuisance in games against Syd. 3-1 loss to them at home an example (bodes well for the over 2.5 goals!)

Just booked Over 2.5 Goals @ $2.07. Not a bad odd for that I thought, expected it to be lower.

Took Newcastle PK for a unit and over 2.25 for 2.5 units.

I think Newcastle Jets will win this one

Brosque may have a lot of pace and skill and it allows him to get a few goals but overall he is not a very good goalscorer, his natural finishing ability is actually quite poor. He's always had raw potential, pace and skill but he's never become a refined, cultured player or clinical finisher.

Bridge is missing for Sydney and Aloisi comes in to replace him, I don't think Aloisi has much to offer these days, he really is a shadow of his former self. He slows down attacks and because Sydney plays without any wingers, they can't take advantage of his height and heading ability as much as they could.

Corica might still be able to spot a nice through ball, even in his later 30's, but when Sydney loses the ball he is a complete liability. Sydney plays in a diamond midfield which could potentially allow them to press in 3 lines in central midfield, making it difficult for their opponents to keep possession. However, the lack of intensity in Corica's game means that Sydney can't take advantage of their formation. Also, defensive midfielder, Musialik, is a bit too slow and lacks the defensive attributes normally associated with his position. I don't like Sydney's midfield and I think teams with more strength, speed and intensity can gain an advantage in this area.

I just think the Newcastle manager, Branko Culina, is a lot more tactically aware than most of the other coaches and he has Newcastle in some very good form over the past couple of months. Michael Bridges is a danger up front and, in my opinion, is the best player in the A-League.

Players like Rooney and Song have that extra bit of pace that Sydney lacks and overall I think the movement and pace of the Jets attack will be too much for Sydney to handle.

I'm backing the Jets on the moneyline.

As for the over/under, its a bit too difficult to call. If the Jets get an early lead, the game could go under because I think the Jets defence can hold out against a more slow and predictable Sydney offense. However, if Sydney gets the first goal then I think the Jets will still have the ability to grab 2 goals to win the game and send the total over 2.5. So I feel the total could go either way, depending on who scores first, that's why I haven't placed a bet on the total here.

Good luck everyone, enjoy the match.

A PK bet means that if the match ends in a draw, your money will be returned as the result will be a push, sort of like a voided bet I suppose. Its a similar way of saying "draw no bet".

    Cheers guys! Much appreciated!

I always felt bad for Bridges! He was pure class before his knee gave way at leeds. You could tell those two goals he got @ Sydney last time that he is simply a cut above. More so then Jason Culina who spends most of the time rolling round the floor!

    Enjoy the match fellas!

Sydney has only scored 3 goals in their last 6 matches, but there defense has been solid to allowing only 1 goal in their last 6 matches.

small play on the under (2/2.5) -112

I'm a bit of a Carlisle fan in England (Rangers from Scotland is my number 1 team) so I remember Bridges well from his Carlisle days. When I heard he was coming to play for my hometown team in Australia (although I don't live there anymore!) I was absolutely delighted. I'll never forget Bridges' contribution the year that Carlisle got promoted from League Two, Bridges, Holmes and Hawley were a great combination up front, Bridges played a bit behind the other two and managed to score 15 league goals after arriving from Bristol City on loan in November. He was signed permanently in January and then went to Hull City after a few games in the following season.

While he was at Carlisle I remember he spoke very highly of the Leeds physio, Dave Hancock, who he credited with saving his career, as several medical people advised Bridges to retire after his serious ankle injury.

I just wonder how good he would have been if he never picked up that injury in the Champions League. He scored 19 league goals in his first season at Leeds in the Premier League so he was a very promising young player.

I remember how well Bridges used to be, class player.

When he turned up at carlisle he had all the bling, Range Rover, Armani wash bag etc, the Carlisle players must have thought, 'WTF??'

Yeah - I know mate - but if you pick the games carefully then they're bound to pay off. This one like you knew was always going to be overs.
