    Default Jersey Purchase

So over the last year I have really gotten into soccer. I am an American and just about 30 years old now so growing up it was baseball/basketball/football.

But no soccer really and quite recently (maybe a year ago) I really started getting into it.

So I was looking to pickup a jersey and was wondering a number and a team that you guys like.

My self I like Man U personally but I don't have a total love for anyone team. (other then USA of course)

Anyhow, thoughts and comments are appreciaited.

Liverpool Steven Gerrard. All you need to see is his goal against Olympiakos when they needed to score to advance in CL. This goal, allowed them to go on and then win the CL in the best match ever played in CL final against AC Milan. Stevie G jersey...and drop Man U!!

Aaron Lennon's Tottenham or English National Jersey. This guy's done so much for the sport, and is a truly class act both on and off the field. He's truly my favorite player to watch.

I think Man U's new jerseys are really ugly, especially the blue/black one. The plain red AIG one from with the white strip on the back were much better.

And obviously I'm biased as a Liverpool supporter but don't be that guy that picks the most successful team just because of their success. It would be the equivalent of wanting to follow American sports and picking the Yankees, Steelers, and Lakers as your teams. Man U also has a sponsorship agreement with the Yankees - the similarities between the two are endless.

Also - it's just me - but I never buy jerseys with names/numbers on them.

That all being said - go for the Stevie G home jerseys - YNWA!

I actually really like the new ones - esp the white Euro 3rd jersey. Thank god they got rid of that terrible silver one....and the green/black one they were using for a bit was the worst.

Here's the thing, while I'm moving away from being a Man U fan because the players that starred in my youth are fading out (I've been recently watching a lot of Tottenham games and falling in love with the heart and skill of that squad), I don't think that the Yankee comparison holds up for one reason. Man U players are loyal. Giggs, Scholes, Ferdinand, etc were with the team forever, and really are classy players.

The Yankees on the other hand, swap players around faster than you can imagine, and the only guy who's been the face of the organization forever is Jeter. I equate them more to Chelsea. They have Terry, who's an English stud and has been with the club forever, but the rest are personality-less players that were bought at random for enormous salaries over recent years. If Man U is the Yankees, they were the 2000 Yankees that had loyal guys like Paul O'Neill and Tino Martinez who bled pinstripes.

I think personality goes a long way, and I've always liked the personality of Man U in comparison to some of the other elite teams. While I'm still a United supporter (because my dad worked in Manchester and raised me that way), I am moving a bit away from them as the makeup of their squad changes. When Giggsy finally hangs up the cleats I may have already moved on.
