Integer handicaps are still used. The reason the bet is often split across two numbers is for finer price granularity allowing the bettor to wager near even odds as is generally preferred by the common betting psyche.

There's nothing special about it. go to 5dimes and bet half your bet on ATL -7 and half on ATL -6.5 and you just made your own asian football bet. I have no idea why asian football bets would appeal to idiots (given that if you really want, you can just create-your-own at the books I've seen offering it). For markets where a half-point is huge, it can give an option near even odds where one wouldn't exist otherwise, so at least it could appeal to dummies who want to bet near even odds for some reason. In football, you can do that anyway, so wtf knows.

What about when AH is -1.5 or -0.75? Do you realy want to bet on a -500 home chalk? Asian Handicap is a great way to turn sh*tty odds in a better risk/reward option.
