Default graphic emoticons: nuke 'em

What is almost certain to be an unpopular suggestion:

Take away the graphic emoticons ("smilies") from the post composition window. How do these help? Making people express their thoughts in English as opposed to pictures might help push the forum toward intelligent discourse, which I would guess many posters and lurkers would appreciate.

i think it is to help with sarcasm and to add your tone of voice, like whether someone is laughing at something someone said or are be cynical.

I never really looked at it that way. Personally I love the emotions.

It's tough for people to understand your tone with text so they help there and with any language barriers.

I do think we could use some different smilies. If anyone has some suggestions for the smilies we would use more, post em and we will switch em up.

The emoticons can help you get across a sarcastic or cynical post. Some people's sarcasm detectors are broke.
