Frankly, we simply feel that the wrong team is favored here!
The Red Sox have been in a tailspin since getting swept in that five-game series vs. the Yankees last week, and they are now 2-10 in their last 12 games overall as well as a pathetic 3-13 the last 16 times that they have been favored! Josh Beckett has been a horror show as of late with a 7.64 ERA and a terrible 1.81 WHIP over his last three starts, and the weak Boston bullpen has been exposed time and time again. To make matters worse, Boston will be without both David Ortiz (irregular heartbeat) and Manny Ramirez (sore knee) for the next two games at the very least.
Conversely Oakland just may be the hottest team in baseball right now, going a fantastic 22-6 in the last 28 games overall including 13-3 in the last 16 games at home! Kirk Saarloos has been consistent lately, posting six Quality Starts in his last seven outings, and he is a perfect three for three in Quality Starts for his career vs. Boston. He is also backed by a fine Oakland bullpen that now ranks fifth in the Major Leagues in pen ERA.
