Andrew's Plays for Thursday
3*** Detroit Red Wings (-185) over Carolina Hurricanes
To win their fourth straight Thursday night, the Hurricanes will have to earn their first road victory over the Detroit Red Wings in more than 20 years. The Red Wings will still be tough to beat as well and will not see any change in domination. The Hurricanes fell 5-2 at Joe Louis Arena on Dec. 9, 2007,
in their last game at Detroit. Ward suffered the loss in his first matchup with the Wings, and fell 3-1 to them at home Oct. 13, 2008. Jimmy Howard has been very strong in net and will be the same tonight if he gets the start. However, Osgood may get the start though as he is 12-4-0 with a 1.50 GAA against the Hurricanes franchise.
Take DETROIT.
1* Chicago Blackhawks -1.5 (-110) over Columbus Blue Jackets
The Chicago Blackhawks got some needed rest this week, allowing star winger Marian Hossa time to heal. Huet had a 2.81 GAA over his last seven games after posting a 2.01 GAA in his first 26 starts. Huet did beat Columbus last month as part of a 13-2-0 stretch at home, and he has a 1.58 GAA in that span. The Blackhawks have won 17 of 20 at the United Center. Advantage Chicago offense/defense.
Take CHICAGO
2**Atlanta Thrashers (+129) over Buffalo Sabres
After earning their first regulation victory in nearly two months, the Atlanta Thrashers are looking to end their four-game home stand with a winning record. Facing a Buffalo Sabres team that hasn't had much success at Philips Arena could help Atlanta accomplish that goal. The Thrashers try to win their sixth straight at home over first-place Buffalo when the teams meet for the third time this season Thursday night. The Thrashers are also 6-0-1 in the last seven overall matchups, going 1-0-1 in Buffalo this season, but Anderson tried to guard against overconfidence after Tuesday's win. Atlanta is hot right now and not cooling down.
Take ATLANTA.
2** Dallas Stars (+122) over Montreal Canadiens
The struggling Stars look to avoid a ninth straight road loss Thursday night when they conclude a three-game trip with a rare visit to Montreal to face the Canadiens. Turco is 2-2-0 with a tie and a 1.99 lifetime goals-against average versus Montreal. Losing forward Andrei Kosyn (knee surgery) and
his 12 goals for six weeks has also played a part in the Canadiens' recent offensive struggles.
Take DALLAS.
