    Default Ice Picks 1/05

Ice picks: Today's best NHL bets

Boston Bruins at Ottawa Senators (-120, 5.5)

Alex Kovalev responded to the news that he wouldn’t be a part of the Russian hockey team in the upcoming Winter Olympics by netting four goals in Ottawa’s 7-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday night.

The Senators are hoping this is a sign of things to come in the New Year for the Russian winger who hadn’t scored in 11 games since getting a hat trick at home against the Carolina Hurricanes on Dec. 12.

“All I can say is it’s a good way to start 2010,” Kovalev told the Ottawa Sun. “Hopefully, that’s the way it’s going to go for me the rest of the season.”

Kovalev has been nothing if not inconsistent this year, but he has performed at a much higher level at home, scoring nine of his 11 goals there. The Senators have also been successful at Scotiabank Place winning five of their last seven home games.

Conversely, Boston has lost five of its last seven on the road.

    Pick: Ottawa

Columbus Blue Jackets at Vancouver Canucks (-220, 5.5)

The Vancouver Canucks seem to have finally turned things around. The team that had won only three road games in the first six weeks of the season just earned a 3-0-1 record on its latest four-game road swing through Calgary, Phoenix, St. Louis and Dallas.

Goalie Roberto Luongo has been impressive, most recently stopping 31 of the Stars’ 32 shots on goal, including 13 straight in the third period in a 3-1 win Saturday night. And even the lesser-know players have been coming up big.

“I think everybody is contributing to the team’s success: all four lines, all six Ds,” winger Alex Burrows told the Vancouver Sun. “Special teams are a big part of the game, too. Our PK has improved a lot.”

The Columbus Blue Jackets, on the other hand, have struggled lately, losing nine of their last 10 games. The Blue Jackets offense has had trouble putting up points with eight of their last 10 outings going under the posted total.

    Pick: Under

been riding these guys all year, dont parlay them they usually go 1-1.. you can usually tell by reading their analysis which was has a better chance to hit so i will bet a little more on that game to try and have a winning night.. but sometimes they will pull a 2-0 night, rarley 0-2( maybe 2 or 3 times all season)... tonight i feel is one of those 2-0 nights

yeah i know its dumb. but i know little to nothing about hockey. wll ther than these guess are pretty good at picking so when it says looks like another 2-0 night i believe it. just always lookin for the big hit since the vig is so heavy sometimes

I have been tracking them since 11/30 and I have them for 5 0-2 nights
    11/30
    12/2
    12/8
    12/21
    12/27

To be honest I am missing about 5 days all together since the 30th but they have gone undefeated (2-0 or 1-0 or 1-0-1) 10 times since the 30th and again I am missing 5 days

    Hope this helps you followers

I did not break down the O/U plays compared to sides as I was just trying to get a feel for the fact if they were any good. I usually do this with most cappers in sports that I feel are easy to cap if you any good at it. Meaning like Hoops and, Hockey and baseball. Football is VERY hard but someone with good capping skills should do VERY well in those other three sports I mentioned. I mean a INT in football returned for a 90 yeard TD is a 14 point swing in Football and could mean the difference of covering the 8 point spread or whatever. But a blocked shot in Hoops taken back the other way for a slam dunk is only a 4 point swing and usually does not play to much into the final score ...unless of course it is OT and the game is a PK.

yea anyone can pick a game with a juice of -220. Look at last night they picked san jose which was like -210 and they got killed. smoke and mirrors

Well to their defense there was not much out there to bet on in Hockey. Actually what I have noticed is Ice picks ususally did not have plays when there was only 1 or 2 games. Either that or I just could not get those nights. Like I said I was missing about 5 days of picks. Not to sound stupid but I liked SJ too

yeah it is easier to cap smaller total score sports like hockey baseball and soccer cause the your almost picking a winner and not dealing with a spread. and i did look at the stats and sj did look better and i think they were at home. just that vig can really get you. plus its the time of year to find cappers that are better at hockey and basketball.
