4-Unit Play #701 Take Houston/Orlando UNDER 200 1/2 (7 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
We went with the under for the Houston game last night and this one was over early due to a fluky first quarter that saw nearly 70 points scored against the Clippers. We just don’t see lightening striking twice for them as this team is not very explosive on offense and they play decent defense. They have played a lot of up-tempo teams and even though they average more than 100 points per game they are only No. 20 in the league in field goal percentage. Orlando is a Top 10 defense and they play well at home and we think they will shut down a Rockets team that played over their heads last night and is coming in on a back-to-back. We were close to taking the Magic here on the line but we hate to lay more than 7 points in the NBA and we think this is a smarter play.
3-Unit Play #703 Take Minnesota +4 Over New Jersey (7:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
Funny. How can New Jersey be favored by this many over anyone? It doesn’t matter that this is Minnesota getting the points, how can anyone in their right mind take New Jersey as chalk? We think the T-Wolves are the better overall team and they have tasted success recently as they have two wins in their last five games while the Nets have gone eight straight without a win. We think that this game should be closer to ‘pick’ and that there is some really nice value on the dog who could, and in our opinion should, win straight up. The T-Wolves are 10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings.
5-Unit Play #708 Take Miami ‘pick’ Over Utah (7:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday)
Love Miami in this spot tonight. This team has been a bit of a disappointment thus far this season but we think they have a real edge tonight against a Utah team that is less-than-average on the road. Miami has absolutely dominated this series at the betting window, scoring cashes in 10 of the last 11 meetings. They have won three straight meetings and nine of the last 10. There are some issues with Dwyane Wade’s back but all indications are that he will be ready to go tonight. Miami is the much more well rested team and they have looked pretty good lately at home despite a loss to Portland last time out. Miami has been bad recently at home ATS and Utah has been great overall ATS, but we think the oddsmakers have overadjusted this number tonight.
I am feeling good about these picks tonight. It is time for doc to start winning.
