The Spartans have had Texas' number, picking up wins against the Horns each of the last 3 seasons. While Texas could finally have its revenge tonight, I can't see this one not being extremely close with the level of experience that Michigan State has and with as well as the Spartans defense. Let's just say that the Spartans have owned the Big 12 Conference over the last few seasons, racking up a 6-0 ATS mark while winning by an average score of 77.8 to 70.2. Michigan State has been chomping at the bit for another opportunity to show the country that it is better than it showed when it lost at UNC. Expect the Spartans to do just that tonight.

I am going very small with Boyd's Michigan State pick. So many things hard to figure out for this game, Spartans might be rusty with 9 days off + finals. Also, must remember that Izzo is from the Bobby Knight school of its ok to lose early season games, already thinking how best to get his team ready for the Big Dance. Would love to know if its Big 12 or Big 10 refs. Michigan State always plays very physical defense & refs could make the difference. Texas showed vs North Carolina that they can hit their free throws down the stretch, so a close game could turn to a double digit Texas win in the closing minutes, as happened vs North Carolina. I am making very few large college hoops plays at this time of year, waiting to unload on the conference tournament games that so often bring huge motivational edges. Also, the weeks leading up to the conference tournaments are when most cappers do their best on college hoops.

BTW, in my opinion, college football & especially the bowl games are great for 2nd Half plays. I hit a biggie Sun night on Mid Tenn State. I had a very small pregame play on Southern Miss, just enough to get me focused on the game, but after Mid Tenn came back from 14 down to trail by 3 at halftime, it became obvious that the Southern Miss defense was in big trouble every time Mid Tenn called a pass play. The Mid Tenn QB was way too fast for them, scrambling til receivers got wide open, or just taking off for 10-25 yard runs. Amazingly Mid Tenn was +0.5 for 2nd half. As is often the case, the 2nd half pointspread was based on pregame expectations, not what actually happened in the 1st half.
