    Default Ferringo NCAABB

Robert Ferringo's Picks For College Basketball

1-Unit Play. Take #719 Eastern Michigan (+21) over Ohio State (Noon, Saturday, Dec. 5)
Kind of a tweener spot here for Ohio State. They come off a great effort to beat Florida State in the Big 10/ACC Challenge and next week they head to Butler. So far this year they beat James Madison by 28 and Lipscomb by 20, so they have been peppering this number. Eastern Michigan is better than either of them. The MAC team is going to be way up for this one. EMU has four guys averaging double-digits, including a solid trio of Brandon Bowdry, Carlos Medlock, and Justin Dobbins that can do some positive things. This one is all about how these teams shoot. Ohio State isn’t going to dominate inside, but EMU isn’t going to stop them either. If OSU is just a little off from deep than we hang around. If Ohio State is draining shots then they could bury us and make this number close.

    1.5-Unit Play. Take #725 North Carolina (+3.5) over Kentucky (12:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)
I really don’t think that either of these teams is very good. But there is no doubt that I’m going to defer to the Tar Heels here, despite playing on the road. The Wildcats have shown me exactly nothing. And even though they have a lot of highly touted freshmen I haven’t seen them do anything yet. North Carolina can at least hang its hat on wins over Ohio State and Michigan State, and one really good half of high-level ball against Syracuse in a hostile environment. I’ll go with the ACC team and the strength inside in this contest.

    1-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #725 North Carolina (+8.5) over Kentucky (12:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5) AND Take #731 UL-Monroe (+21.5) over Alabama (1 p.m.)
    Note:
    This is a 5-point teaser.

    4.5-Unit Play. Take #739 Valparaiso (+17) over Butler (7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)
    Note:
This is our Game of the Week.

    2-Unit Play. Take #773 Boise State (+17) over Illinois (7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)
Going to go ahead and play the letdown here. And if we lose this one I have no problem playing against the Illini on a chase in their next game against Vanderbilt. That Vandy game makes this a bit of a Letdown/Look Ahead spot. Illinois is coming off just an absurd comeback against Clemson this week (Clemson was worn out after three games and a title in California the previous weekend) and I like a letdown. Illinois didn’t cover against Northern Illinois (as a 20-point favorite) or against Wofford (15-point favorite) and I think that Boise is as good as any of those squads. Illinois has already lost to Utah and Bradley, two teams that are just rated a bit better than Boise State, and I just don’t know what the Illini have done to justify being this large of a favorite. Boise State doesn’t defend at all, but they can score. And they have kind of a quirky offense that can be tough if you’re not used to it. This one has closer-than-it-should-be written all over it.

    2-Unit Play. Take #771 Charlotte (+19) over Louisville (7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    2-Unit Play. Take #755 Penn State (+7.5) over Temple (4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

1.5-Unit Play. Take #797 New Mexico State (+17) over New Mexico (9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    1.5-Unit Play. Take #741 North Texas (+1.5) over Rice (3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    1.5-Unit Play. Take #817 Eastern Kentucky (-5) over Tennessee-Martin (7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    1-Unit Play. Take #794 Utah State (-4.5) over St. Mary’s (9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    1-Unit Play. Take #749 Hofstra (+1.5) over Towson (4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    1-Unit Play. Take #751 Northeastern (+1.5) over Drexel (4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    1-Unit Play. Take #724 UNC-Wilmington (-1.5) over George Mason (5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

    1-Unit Play. Take #767 Bowling Green (-4.5) over Fordham (7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)

Piggybacking a little on lordmohs thread, I thought it'd be fun to keep track of these plays as they finish throughout the day, just cause there is an ass-ton of them. I have rearranged the plays in order of when they will end and will continue to edit the wins and losses. I'm doing this for fun and for myself, not looking for points or anything. This is lordmohs thread. Let me know if I mess something up.

All those bets for +1.5 units, oh well. It's going to get interesting after the next round of games, one way or another.

I actually registered in this forum just to I could post an apology for this debacle of a card. What I was thinking, I have no idea, but this was one of the worst cards that I've put up on an otherwise strong start to the year. Stupidity from start to finish, top to bottom. I had no business winning UNC; I think both of those teams are terrible (not OVC or Big Sky terrible, but relative to their ranking and/or general public opinion; I think they are both fringe Top 20 teams) so I should have just stayed away. I left off good plays like Citadel and Detroit - playing on teams I like and against ones I don't - in order to bet against teams I love this year like Mississippi State and Purdue. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Anyway, you guys are being very cool about it and I appreciate it. Most of these forums are full of real vitriol and bitterness, so it's nice to see you guys taking it easy. Of course, might not be so forgiving at the end of this night. We will see.

Anyway, don't feel confident at all about the rest of our card. Western Carolina was going to be my Game of the Week but I got cold feet this morning when posting. Don't ask why. Again, rampant stupidity.

Oh, and Butler is obviously going to shoot about 12-for-20 from 3-point land and win by 19 just to spite me for writing an article against them this week. Again, can't say enough how terrible I think I've done today and can only say that I promise I'll get better.

Best of luck and here's to escaping tonight.

Yeah, if only I could cash out now.

I really liked the Charlotte play. They are going to be sneaky good and are really an A-10 X-factor. But this game is far from over. With Louisville's press and streaky shooting things can turn around quickly. But the Niners already got embarrassed in Cameron and I had a feeling they would come to pay today. And the bottom line is that I just don't think that Louisville is that good. they aren't a Top 25 team. Not even close. In fact, I would be willing to bet that they finish sixth or seventh in the Big East.

Yeah, I gotta ditch the teasers, eh? Been on a nice little run with them. And if I can get Nevada tonight that will be a big help. But I think they may have run their course. May try to string them out a bit longer and then ditch them in conference play. But they can be money late in the season. The oddsmakers are just so sharp late in the year, with a lot of games coming down right around that number. So if you can push the line in your favor a few buckets I just have always thought that was a valuable situation. We'll see.

C'mon Valpo. How about a little one time.....

When your luck's in your lucks in, I missed the Eastern Michigan bet, not sure why as I've only just realised I missed it, the Wilmington game didn't show up on the score tracker thing so I never got round to putting the bet on, I ain't bothered with the Teasers & I bought a few points on the some of the games with closer lines so turned the Northeastern games into a win.. Go Ferringo \o/

    Uh-oh...

Shot 5-for-8 from 3-point land and still down 6. Just not a good sign. First 5 minutes of this half are going to be huge. Gotta just hang around.

Still have hope though. I like a 12-point Butler victory; then everyone wins.

You wanna get an account or 2 with the US sportsbooks t4, I've got 4 or 5 options that cover all the games and I can buy a couple of extra points if I feel like it on any one of them, all you need is a moneybookers account and you got a link into all your accounts

As for Murray State, I was leaning on the other side. That's just a lot of points to be laying at this state against a quality Morehead State team. Murray State can be explosive and they will have an edge to their game tonight. But I was on Eastern Kentucky the other night and that was easy money. Murray State won but they really had no business winning that game, and they weren't even close to covering. Same thing: just too many points. Morehead's three losses this year were by 1, by 6 and by 16 at Kentucky. I think they can hang around and I just don't see it as a high value situation.

As for Wazzou, I am still torn. Coming into this year I thought that they were going to be awful. Just awful. And I still think that they aren't very good. I mean, they played well in Alaska but they also played Anchorage and Nicholls State and didn't cover either game. They have played one of the worst nonconference schedules in the country and they still just don't do it for me. Cougars also in somewhat of a letdown spot, they are awful on the road, and the Big 12 has owned the Pac-10. But on the other side, Kansas State has not been even close to living up to their expectations. They just look disjointed and their guards really are not playing that well. K-State has been known to lay it on some people in Manhattan, but all around there are just more questions than answers. I do know a couple other people on Washington State, if that helps, but even if Marquette hadn't bombed I wouldn't be feeling overly confident there.

Actually, it is. I really wish I were enough of a "star" where people would want to pretend to be me (or, come to think of it, a "star" at all) but that's not really the case.

This damn Butler game is going as I thought it might about an hour ago. Damn it. Can't believe I bitched out with Western Carolina. Ugh.
