Question MrMartingale System Picks & Bet of the Day Picks

Anyone here ever heard of mrmartingale.com? I found the below email from him in my junk box. His name is Gale Martin and he uses martingale style system for his system picks...coincidence or bullshit? His bet of the day picks are flat 1 unit picks.

For the system picks he is hitting 50% and still made nearly 2000 units in profit, and it also says the system failed 4 times?

    Hey,

You are not subscribed to anything. This is just a one time email
about the bet of the day picks.

As a thanksgiving holiday special, you can get 11 months of my bet of
the day picks free. Check mrmartingale.com site for more info. Bet of
the day picks are simply flat 1 unit bets, usually 5 to 9 bets each
week. Below is the record of the picks since 2006 up until Nov 18,
    2009.

    Bet of The Day Records

Since September 2006 and Record as of November 18, 2009

Group A: All spread and totals with standard -110 (1.91) Odds
    290-162-12 (64.16%) +101.90 Units*

Group B: All other totals and moneylines
    265-175-7 (60.22%) +119.78units*

    Overall: Both group A & B together
    555-337-19 (62.22%) +221.68 Units*

Units based on 1 unit risk per bet.
    That is a yield/roi of 24.85%

    ---------------------------------

I also do picks using a progressive system. This is seperate from bet
of the day picks and you can get this for 11 months as well as
    thanksgiving special.

Progressive systems are doomed to fail.
    From His site:

    ----------------------

    Rules of the system:

    • Bet only on events with 1.91 (-110) or better odds. Do not randomly pick games with 1.91 (-110) or better odds. Always handicap the game and find the edge--play the side that has a win estimation of 50% or better. Best way to maximize profit is to bet on good underdog odds with a win estimation of 50% or better. My picks for this system have average odds of about 2.40 (+140) and because of this the system is highly successful.
    • All bet amounts are for "risk", i.e. use the unit amount given in the bet table (bet1=1unit, bet 2=2.1units, bet3=4.41units, bet4=9.26units, bet5=19.45units, bet6=40.84units) regardless of the odd.
    • Bet on the next game only after you are sure about the result of the previous bet. Whenever a bet wins, the next bet amount is bet 1 (1 unit). Whenever a bet is cancelled or voided, repeat the same bet amount on the next bet. Whenever a bet loses, use the progression until you win. If you ever encounter a six game losing streak, start over with a new bankroll.
    • Do not change your unit amount until you have completed a successful session. For example, if you start at 1 unit = £10 with a bankroll of £770.60, you should remain at 1 unit = £10 until your bankroll is doubled (1 successful session). Now that you have double the capital, you may increase your unit size to £20 or you may withdraw half your earnings and increase your unit size to £15. Once you start with the increased unit size and bankroll, you should wait until you complete a successful session with the new unit size and bankroll before increasing it again. It is recommended that you select a desired unit amount and stick to it forever instead of increasing it after each successful session--increasing strategy is for those who don't have big bankroll to start right away at big unit size. It is highly recommended that you go no more than 1 unit = £100.
    • Play only at safe and reliable sportsbooks.
    • Never randomly pick a game. Always cap your games and play only valuable bets with good odds. It is highly recommended that you use my picks to minimize risk and to maximize profit because I have been doing this since 2006 without failing.

According to his site results, it didn't just fail once, it failed 5 times for series 1 and 4 times for series 2. But how is he up so much with that many fails?

Also he is hitting just over 50% for both series. If he is playing + odd underdog like he claims then why not just make flat 1 unit bets on each pick instead of using progression. I tried martingale style in roulette table playing odd/even and red/white and it was a disaster. Never again.

I sent an email asking him to explain how he manages to get nearly 3000 units in profit with 5 failures and he told me that the rate of the bankroll doubling is much higher than the rate of failure. He said that in average, the bankroll can double every month (make 77 units profit)....each failure is a -77 units. So, if there is a failure with in 3 weeks of joining, you are pretty much ****ed unless you have another bankroll. He gave me the below example on how fast he can double the bankroll by using his progressive method....interesting how he lost 4 in a row twice and won the 5th bet and because of that he made more profit than what he would have made if he got all his bets right....but i still think this system is doom to fail.

I now see how he is making that profit. Since he had a promotion this week where you can get full year of picks at the cost of one month i took the bite. I have started playing the picks yet but I can see how he gets profit even with all the failures.

If you read the system, there is this rule where you Risk the bet regardless of the bet. The bets are always as follows: Bet 1 = risk of 1 unit. Bet 2 = risk of 2.1 unit. Bet 3 = risk of 4.41 units. bet 3 = 4.41 units. bet 4 = 9.26 units. bet 5 = 19.45 units. bet 6 = 40.84 units.

The risk amount is always same regardless of the odds and he always plays + odds. So when a bet wins in a later stage you win LOT MORE than "what you lost + 1 unit". He asks you to return to bet one if bet 6 losses...instead of chasing for 7th bet. So you get ****ed if you lose 6 in a row in the first few weeks unless you have a backup bankroll. After the first month your bankroll would have already doubled so you are in the safe zone.

The funny thing is because of the system works and the odd works, he makes the most profit when the winning % of his picks are low without losing 6 in a row. For example if he had 5 picks at +150 odds, you make the most money when you lose the first four and hit the 5th bet....more than what you would make if you get all 5 right because if you get all 5 right you are only risking 1 unit on each bet.

In his record for the last 2 years he is hitting slightly over 50% for his system picks, I think its better to play all his picks at just flat 1 units because the ROI will be higher since his average odds of the picks are +130. In the picks that he sent so far to me the average odd is much higher. Take a look at the picks for both series for the system....and when he picks the games he makes sure that they dont overlap (he would pick like an early game and a late game...or if its weekend, afternoon game, evening game then night game)...take a look...

I started with him in November but i am not using the progression system.

Martingale system sucks but the way mrmartingale.com does it interesting. He uses plus odds, and the rules of the system says always risk the amount instead of betting to win certain amount. So, the bet amounts are same regardless of the odds. The rule also suggests that you don't go past 6th level, so there is a limit and this prevents going broke. That is why he has made so much profit even though he lost 6 in a row couple of times.

However, I still don't like progressive system. Recently I started using his system picks but I just play them as flat bets. I just bet 1 unit on all his bets instead of using progression. His average odd is about +140 and he hits about 50% You don't need any progression for this. +140 with 50% is better than hitting 60% in pointspread. Take a look at the recent picks from his results page and you will see that he is hitting 50% and there are many games ranging from +130 to +230 that won!
