    Default Nover

Stephen Nover Thursday's Plays 10 Dime OVER Phillies/Yankees - It's a great story Pedro Martinez facing the Yankees - but it would have meant a lot more if it were earlier in the decade.

Martinez is 38 now. He still knows how to pitch but he is far from vintage Pedro. Even when he was in his prime, Martinez was just 1-2 with a 4.71 ERA in six postseason appearances versus the Yankees.

The Yankees have the patience to work Martinez into a high pitch count. I don't see Martinez being able to go deep into this game. The Phillies have a weak bullpen.

The Phillies have a patient lineup, too. We're talking about the two top offenses in baseball with the Phillies and Yankees.

A.J. Burnett is talented. He's also a head case and has never been one to count on in big pressure games. Once again Joe Giradi overmanaged his bullpen so he has some tired arms entering this Game 2.

The weather is expected to be better than Game 1 with no rain. That should help the hitters take advantage of Yankee Stadium's short fences.

I cashed with the under in Game 1. Now's the time to switch and go over for Game 2.

Was it somehow nice weather last night in Game 1 when Utley came up to bat? Or is Utley just a 'mudder?' I'm on the Over as well, but not sure weather had much to do with the Yankees bats being silent on Wednesday.
