[302] 4* South Carolina +4 -110 | WIN 4
Mississippi, #5 in the country?? come to Columbia with high expectations this season with emergence of QB Snead and strong finish to '08-'09 season. However, team untested & unproven with two convincing wins over lightweights Southeastern Lousiana & Memphis to start season. And, early indications are the Rebels may have problems stopping the run and Snead still needs a lot of work with his receivers. South Carolina can run and defend the run + put pressure on the QB. Hence, Snead will have less time to throw the ball and will find the passing lanes a little tighter. South Carolina more prepared (battle tested) with early contests vs. NC State and Georgia. And, very important, SC quarterback Garcia finding some much needed confidence last two games, especially putting up nice numbers in Atlanta. His improved play & maturation should be key in this game. Williams-Brice Stadium always a tough place to play for any visitor, especially an untested Mississippi squad playing their first conference game on the road. Gamecocks win straight up or this game goes down to the wire. Take the points.
[912] 4* Oakland Athletics -110 | Action/Anderson | WIN 4
Texas start Feldman putting up incredible numbers this season, especially on road (12-1, 2.58 ERA??) but will side with Oakland start Anderson who has incredible stuff. The rookie lefty is often dominating (3-0, 18 innings, 20 strikeouts, 3 walks L3; only 2 runs allowed L2 starts) and beat Texas his last start vs. 3-2. Feldman was tagged for 6 runs in 6 innings vs. Oakland 10 days' ago. Texas are out of the wildcard race, have lost 7 of 10 overall and 8 of L11 to the A's. Meanwhile, Oakland have won 8 of their L10 games overall. A dominating performance by Anderson gets the W this afternoon.
[903] 4* Los Angeles Dodgers -145 | Padilla/Martin | WIN 4
Padilla vs. Martin is a no-brainer for me + Dodgers have superior pen. Padilla has a live arm, can be dominating, has won 4 of his L5 starts and pitched well vs. Washington in his career. Nats start Martin has nice record (8-4) but is not overpowering, has control issues, hence, has pitched out many jams recently and has needed his teammates to pick him up. He doesn't pitch deep into games. Washington, have lost 7 of 10. LA have won 7 of 10 but lost last night to the Nats. Hence, another reason I think they bounce back strong tonight as the battle Philly & St. Louis for home field in the NL Playoffs.
