5-Unit Play Take #958 Houston Astros +110 over Arizona Diamondbacks (7:05p.m.)
The Houston Astros have been a streaky team this year. Right now they are looking to win their fourth straight. For them to make a run at the NL wild card, they will have to be consistent down the stretch. A series sweep vs. the lowly DBacks would be a positive start. Arizona has now lost six straight. Their bats have been silent, hitting just .177 during this skid. The Astros are 25-14 at home since early June. Their bullpen in the last week has been rock-solid. It is now or never for Cecil Cooper’s team.
3-Unit Play Take #959 Florida Marlins +165 over Atlanta Braves (7:10p.m.)
This is a great matchup of two young pitchers. Tommy Hanson (8-2, 3.05) for the Braves, and lanky Chris Volstad (9-9, 4.61) for the visiting Marlins. It is also a battle for second place in the NL East as well as a wild card berth. The Marlins claimed round one on Friday after a long rain delay. The feeling here is that the Marlins will handle the pressure better down the stretch than the young Braves team. Volstad gave up one run on three hits when he last faced Atlanta. Like him here.
3-Unit Play Take # 967 Los Angeles Angels -110 over Toronto Bluejays (1:05p.m.)
Just like that the Angels have lost two straight. Even in defeat last night, they battled until the final out. Ervin Santana takes the hill for the Halos today. He has been on his game in his last two starts. He held two formidable offenses to a total of three runs across 15 innings. Scott Richmond for the Jays has a 7.00 ERA in his two outings since he did a stint on the DL. Angels get back in the win column today.
