Lady luck: Sunday's best WNBA bets

San Antonio Silver Stars at Minnesota Lynx (-2.5, 159)

The Silver Stars have a fundamental problem: they only have two consistent scorers.

After MVP candidate Becky Hammon (21.2 ppg, 4.6 apg) and Sophia Young (17.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg), no other player on the roster averages double digits. And even in the lower-scoring WNBA, this is a fatal flaw.

San Antonio has dropped three of four with the team averaging just 74.2 points per game, good for the fourth-worst total in the league. The team also shoots a horrid 41 percent from the floor and 32.5 percent from beyond-the-arc.

Meantime, Minnesota is coming off a win over Connecticut and has so far split the season series at one-game apiece with the Silver Stars.

Minnesota doesn’t play good defense, but should have enough to stifle San Antonio.

Pick: Lynx

Chicago Sky at Detroit Shock (-7, 150.5)

The Sky better have packed their travel bags. After playing the Dream in Atlanta on Saturday night, Chicago must hop a plane to fly back north for an early evening affair in the Motor City.

And the road has been an unkind place for the Sky. They entered the weekend having dropped nine of 11 away from home.

The key for the Shock will be improving their eighth-ranked defense (77.8 ppg), which has been a big reason they've followed a win with a loss four straight times, and won consecutive games only once this season.

"That happens," Detroit center Taj McWilliams told the Associated Press. "Offense happens, but defense is what you make happen. We have to do what we need to do on defense.

Pick: Detroit
