    TEAM TIPS
Minnesota hasn’t fared well as a road favorite, losing 10 of its last 12 in that role. The Twins dropped two of three home games to Kansas City when the teams met for the first time this season during a May 1-3 series. But the Twins have won four in a row at Kansas City dating back to 2007. Twins starter Nick Blackburn is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three career appearances versus Kansas City, including two starts. The Twins, however, are 8-20 in Blackburn’s last 28 away starts. Blackburn, 6-3 with a 3.11 ERA, gave up four runs and a season-high 11 hits in a 4-3 loss to Milwaukee during his last start on Wednesday. It was his first loss since May 5. The under has cashed the past six times Blackburn has taken the mound. The under is 22-8-2 in Minnesota’s last 32 road contests.

    PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Royals: The Royals are looking to halt a five-game home losing streak. Last year, the Twins took seven of nine from the Royals at Kauffman Stadium, holding them to an average of 2.8 runs per game. The Royals aren’t scoring now either, averaging just three runs per game during their last eight contests. Kansas City is 9-29 when scoring three runs or fewer. Since May 8, the Royals have dropped 31 of 45 games. Right-hander Luke Hochevar (2-3, 5.87 ERA) went seven innings against the Astros in his last start on Wednesday giving up two runs on three hits. Hochevar didn’t get the decision in a 4-3 Kansas City win. Hochevar is 2-1 with a 3.71 ERA in four starts since being briefly sent to Triple-A Omaha. The Royals are 2-8 in Hochevar’s last 10 starts as an underdog. The Royals are 4-9 in Hochevar’s last 13 starts.

    TEAM TIPS
GIANTS: National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum goes for San Francisco. The Giants ace is 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA during a string of seven consecutive quality starts. Lincecum (7-2, 2.57 ERA) had another monster performance on Tuesday in a 4-1 victory against Oakland. He held the Athletics to one run on seven hits, while striking out 12. It was his second complete game in his last three appearances. Lincecum is 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA in three career starts against St. Louis. The over has cashed 13 of the past 19 times when Lincecum has been road chalk. Outfielder Nate Schierholtz has been red-hot for the Giants with four multi-hit performances in his last five games. He’s batting .571 with two homers in his last 21 at bats. The Giants have lost 28 of their last 39 games versus National League Central Division clubs.

PROJECTED SCORE: 4 (Side of the Day)

Cardinals: Albert Pujols is leading the majors in homers and RBIs, but the Cardinals are in an offensive funk. The Cardinals have scored only 13 runs in their last six games, while batting less than .220 during this span. Pujols was 7-for-11 with two homers when the Giants won two of three from the Cardinals during the first series this season on May 29-31. Right-hander Brad Thompson (2-3, 4.50 ERA) opposes Lincecum. Thompson has moved around starting, pitching in long relief and in short relief. Since being inserted into the starting rotation, Thompson is 2-1 with a 3.63 ERA in his last four outings. He gave up five runs in five innings of an 11-0 road loss to the Mets in his last start on Wednesday. Thompson doesn’t have a decision against the Giants in six career games. He has a lifetime 2.13 ERA versus San Francisco.
