Myers vs Johnson
Brett Myers has been the best pitcher in the Phillies starting rotation so far this season. Even though he's been victimized by the long ball he continues to get the job done. If not for the homers he's given up his numbers would be sparkling so far this season and many of the long balls have been solo shots because Myers just isn't giving up many hits. He will take advantage of facing a free-swing Marlins club on Friday. Myers has great breaking stuff and will be capable of frustrating Florida's lineup. If he avoids the mistake pitches that have plagued him early this season Myers will be in total shutdown mode as he's pitched well enough even with the occasional mistake pitch. A key for Myers tonight is that he should enjoy plenty of run support.Yes, Josh Johnson has impressive overall numbers on the season but he just allowed six earned runs against the Nationals and there is a significant match-up issue here for the Marlins right-hander. Johnson is much better against right-handed batters than left-handed sticks and the Phillies are loaded on the left-hand side. In fact, some of the Phillies that have enjoyed success against Johnson are right-handed bats. Look at this listing of guys who are all hitting at least .294 against Johnson: Chris Coste, Greg Dobbs, Pedro Feliz, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, and Jayson Werth. Yes indeed it could be a rough night for Johnson on the mound and, keep in mind, the Phillies are very motivated for this series as, so far this season, the Marlins are the front-runners in the NL East! Consider a small play on Philadelphia on the money line on Friday night.
