We talked about it in the soccer forum, so here we are. Starting this today as a sign-up & discussion thread about the format for those interested. Here's my initial format ideas:
1. This being a soccer tournament, it should reflect that by starting with "Group Stages" and a Round Robin type-schedule where you would go head-2-head with all the other players in your Group. Each "match" would be a week's worth of picks, the winner getting "three points" for the win, obviously one point if there is a tie. We could use units +/- as our tie breaker kind of like "goals scored" where if there was a tie in the number of points after the Round Robin schedule finishes, ties would be settled by the one who has more units accumulated. The number of players to advance out of a group would of course depend on the number of entrants & group size.
2. Limit weekend plays to International matches & only the top league in England, Italy, Spain, Germany & Brazil because those seem to be the most popular amongst the regulars and it also keeps from having to post a zillion lines on Saturdays & Sundays with all the other countries, B leagues, 3rd divisions, etc.
3. Set a MAX number of plays at maybe 21 for the week. Three "best bets" where the unit size wagered would be 2 or 3 times the normal one unit wager would be allowed, but not required.
4. Full match Moneylines, Asian Handicaps & Match Totals would be the only things allowed to be wagered on.
5. Lines used would be agreed on by all participants voting for the sportsbook that they want used. Lines would be posted at Midnight ET time and would be the only lines allowed to be used for the posted date.
That's what I got right now. So, sign-up if you're in and please let's get some discussion going on the format, whether you agree with what I have listed or have other ideas. A start date will depend on how long it takes to get an acceptable number of players. I'm thinking maybe a 25 point entry fee and we can come up with a payout table based on how many people enter.
