Lower, raise, or keep the American voting age at 18

Several things could be discussed and several points of views

Americans can be working as early as 16 and get taxed w/o representation

Americans can be dependents up to 23 years of age

Americans can enlist when they turn 17

Americans can't drink ehoh until they turn 21

Americans can't run for President until they turn 35

I would keep it the same, but the age should really go up.. no maturity at that age to make an informed (unbiased and unmanipulated-through-commercials) decision!

keep it the same....many 18 year olds don't even vote as it is...lowering it would make no sense.

americans of all ages are the most gullible and ignorant people walking the earth.
voting for 2 pre-approved military-industrial complex choices for any federal government position isn't really a choice...

I would make voting weighted based on predetermined measures of intelligence, knowledge, and possibly emotional health, while removing any restrictions on age.

The problem isn't with the age requirement. The problem is that we no longer care about educating (actual and potential) voters to the level of independent and rational thought required to administer a democracy. Fewer than 1 in 4 high school seniors scored as "competent" or better on "Civics" in the most recent National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Move voting, gambling and booze to 16, would make high school alot more tolerable for future generations!

i honestly think the voting age should be lowered, maybe that will spark my generations interest in voting... its sad that a 16 year old can be part of the army (reserves atlleast in canada, but cant vote and or drink to 18 and 19)

They should raise the IQ requirement if anything.

There should be no age requirement as there are 1000's of 12 year olds who possess the necessary intelligence to vote. There are also 1000's if not MILLIONS of 30 year olds whose IQ's are below that of a carrot (99.9% being liberal democrats).

Forget the age requirement and require passage of some sort of reasonable IQ test in order to vote. Unfortunately, passing a simple IQ test would disqualify the vast majority of the democratic voter base so our country will continue to see millions of idiots casting their votes at the polls.

The republicans tried to require fingerprinting as a requirement to vote to ensure that nobody votes more than once and to ensure that no deceased people wind up voting.

However, the democrats know full well that voters who vote multiple times vote overwhelmingly democratic. In addition, the democrats have averaged well over 98% of the deceased vote dating back over 100 years. Finally, if fingerprinting was passed, it would keep criminals away from the polls and the vast majority of criminals who vote, vote democratic as liberal democratic judges are far more lenient when it comes to sentencing hard-core criminals.

As one might have expected, the democrats objected violently to fingerprint requirements for all of the above reasons.

Raise it to 23. Must have property to vote. Must pass a test on the constitution (therefore must be able to read). Must pass a test on Economics.

Way too many dumbsh*ts voting these days: look who we've voted in.

^ I agree. No reason to change it. 18 is the age where people SHOULD become adults. May not happen, but there isn't any good reasons to move it up or down.
