Josh Homme (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures). The guy comes up with sweet riffs and absolutely jams!

Being from Seattle....Jimmy, don't care if he's dead. Fan of SRV....dead, don't care.

Pete Townsend, Slash, Joe Satriani (not sure if I spelled that right).

really like Buddy Guy's music. very underrated imo

He's disqualified because he's dead, but Duane Allman deserves a mention.

    For qualifying entries-
    Dickey Betts
    Peter Frampton
Guy from Molly Hatchett (can't remember his name)

James Taylor for living guitarist not mentioned yet. There is a lot more to guitar than just finger speed/ he's a great writer as well. Also for dead I would throw in Chet Atkins.

  8. #43

Robin Trower? did I remember the spelling correct?

None of you bozos even once mentioned the Great B.B.King and you call yourselves music experts! Shame, shame, shame...

A lot of great names on here. Nice tread. See, I knew a bunch of us had other shit in common besides gambling. What's really sad, like stated earlier, a lot of these greats are gone. And the guys out there today with exception of a few, have nowhere near the chops the dudes from the 60's and 70's had! It's all fuk'in fake pop shit with auto tuned robotic voices!

Even rap which at one time, was actually cool, ( think Aerosmith and Run DMC) is phony and totally identical from one lame ass rapper to the next. Now every fuk'in dude with auto voice tuner and a robot effect thinks their music is good. That shit is so fuk'in lame and untalented! Peter Frampton, another great guitarist by the way, was do'in the same only much cooler "analog" not digital, voice effect back in the 70's, way before T-Pain claims "he" invented it! And Styx, nobody could even fuk'in come close to the stuff Dennis DeYoung was conjuring up on synthesizer voice effects!

    gary moore overrated ?

hendrix overrated????? wow. Can't disagree more. people will never understand the influence hendrix had on so many styles of music.

Maybe you have to be older, but any wah -wah sound you ever heard sampled on rap tunes, 70s cop shows, funk, soul, rock in the 70s came directly from hendrix. Listen to miles davis, post bitches brew, jazz guys in the fusion era, hendrix had such an influence on so many musicians. Even today, his music with those great dylan-sci fi influenced lyrics sounds incredibly futuristic

    Crayzee,
I'm glad to see you mentioned Django Reinhardt and Les Paul, even though the thread called for those still alive.

Here's a couple of young live guys playing 'Some of These Days' in a style similar to Django.

Frank Vignola is the one I knew and looked up. He's the one with the glasses.

I hope some of you will like this .

this is probably getting away from the rock/blues genre, but if you are a guitarist or any sort of musician really you should like this for those days when you are practicing scales. They had a great album called one night in san francisco you should find
