Lynn Swann
For those of you who watched the Georgia/West Virginia game and didn't know what the announcers were referring to as the next step in Lynn Swann's life, he's going to announce on Wednesday that he's a candidate for governor of the state of Pennsylvania.
Just thought you might want to know in case you didn't already.

Somebody a month or so ago posted about a bet at Bodog where they had this prop. It was only a $100 max, but even back then, it seemed like a lock he was going to announce.

As a political consultant, I would kill for a candidate like Swann. He's a god in Pennsylvania and he'll be able to raise a warchest the likes of which the state has never seen. He should have no problem winning the Republican nomination, but Rendell will be a tough opponent. Pennsylvania is the state to watch in 2006 with the governor's race and the country's highest profile US Senate race.

Actually, he's been very involved in a number of social issues. He's definitely a more qualified candidate than Arnold Swarzenegger was.
Why do I have the feeling that if he was running as a Democrat, you wouldn't have made that comment, BB?

I don't like his chances. Isn't Pennsylvania mostly a Democratic state? Plus, he'll be on the spot about Bush's failures as a GOP candidate.

Actually, he's polled very well. Its going to be a very competitive race and it could easily go either way.

no place is more democratic than CA except NY and cali elected a republican. i have no doubt that swann can easily win in PA where he is held in such high esteem.

pretty weird how you get states like NY and CAl that are "allegedly" heavily democrat/liberal bastions who then elect Republican governors....and vica versa you get states like North Dakota with 2 Democrat Senators (I think) and they vote like 70% Bush in the general election for President....
Just goes to show that in general Americans are very fickle when it comes to politics.

You're right, it's an interesting dynamic, but it shows that when it comes to local politics, the man is a greater presence than the party. that is why i think swann will be tough to beat in PA. in fact, i don't think it will be close unless something very "bad" can be revealed about him
